On the surface, drinking wine and playing golf don’t seem to have much in common. One entails swirling and sniffing while the other involves swinging and putting, but Burgundy and birdies are a complementary duo. Both can make the quick turn from mild interest to obsessive hobby.
You don’t have to be an expert to partake in either, but some basic knowledge certainly helps. And the best wineries, just like the best courses, are often located in some of the world’s most idyllic locations. So it only makes sense to combine the two.
Whether you want to end your round with a local varietal at the 19th hole, or go all-in with a course-adjacent vineyard tour and tasting, these are seven great places to pair wine and golf, with expert tips to help guide your next trip.

Silverado Resort
Napa Valley
This Napa resort has 36 holes open to members and hotel guests. The North Course is better for experienced players—and home to the annual Procore Championship PGA Tour event—while the South Course is best for casual golfers. Both provide easy access to wine, both on- and off-site.
Beverage manager Tim Healy joined the resort recently, revamping the wine program to highlight smaller producers, curating an eclectic list that golfers can sip at The Grill, the on-site restaurant, after walking off the 18th hole.
“Because of our location, 90% of what I sell is Napa wine, but I love to show people wines beyond this region, like Paso Robles and Old World wines,” says Healy. And when you get off the property, you don’t have to go far to find more wine. “We’re right on the Silverado Trail, so there are tasting rooms across the street, and then more Napa wines are everywhere.”

Full Cry Golf Course at Keswick Hall
Charlottesville, Virginia
Playing the Pete Dye-designed Full Cry Golf Course means navigating the rolling topography and challenging greens with prime views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s a golfing paradise made better by its proximity to good drinks.
Wine Enthusiast named Charlottesville and the Monticello American Viticultural Area its 2023 Wine Region of the Year. The area’s wine-growing history dates back to Thomas Jefferson, and today the Monticello Wine Trail is dotted with more than 40 wineries. Hit the links in the morning, book a tasting nearby to sample local Cab Franc and Petit Verdot, then return to the property for dinner and more wine at Marigold by Jean-Georges, which serves seasonal menus highlighting regional ingredients.

Cabot Bordeaux, Châteaux Course
Médoc, France
The Châteaux Course is part of a 36-hole golf resort in Le-Pian in the heart of Médoc, just north of Bordeaux, and it’s one of the top-ranked courses in France. It resembles an inland links course with gorse-, heather- and broom-lined fairways, giving it a Scottish feel, says Chris Bowles, a senior golf vacation specialist at Golfbreaks. “It is also situated within 200-hectares of untouched countryside which adds to the charm,” adds Bowles. “The 19th hole is situated overlooking the course and has an excellent restaurant with a fantastic wine collection.”
With more than 100,000 hectares of vines in this part of France, Bowles says that wine lovers have countless options for taking tours and visiting wineries. “The course also provides easy access to world famous châteaux such as Château Margaux and Château d’Arsac.”

Algodon Wine Estates
Mendoza, Argentina
Golf and grapes are entwined at Algodon Wine Estates. The nine-hole course winds through vineyards, olive groves and fruit orchards, with five tee boxes to fit golfers of all skill levels. And the practice facility lets you drive, chip and putt with views of the snowcapped Andes in the background. The property also has 10 tennis courts covering multiple surfaces—clay, hardcourt and grass—in case you want to double-up your sporting efforts.
When it’s time for a drink, the boutique winery makes small-batch Malbec and Malbec blends aged in French oak. Wine tastings are held at the restaurant and at the winery, so you can follow up a round of golf with a few pours of the local favorites.

Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa
Texas Hill Country
This sprawling resort property in Southwest Austin is home to four world-class golf courses designed by legends Tom Fazio, Ben Crenshaw and Arnold Palmer, so the golf is top-notch here.
But the resort is also a comfortable home base when exploring the Texas Hill Country, says Elise Cordell, the senior brand ambassador for Pernod Ricard’s wine and Champagne brands, including Perrier-Jouet and G.H. Mumm.
Dozens of wineries are located within an hour drive, giving you lots of options for tours and tasting. And because this diverse AVA isn’t constrained by Old World traditions and regulations, winemakers produce a wide variety of wines, including excellent Tempranillo and Viognier.

Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club
Niagara Peninsula
Niagara-on-the-Lake is North America’s oldest continuously operated golf club, and the grounds were involved in the war of 1812, so you get a little history lesson with each round.
Cordell and her golf-loving father like this nine-hole course, which runs along the shores of Lake Ontario. You can’t beat the views, and the local Niagara Peninsula wine region boasts more than 70 wineries making a diverse bunch of bottles, from ice wine and sparkling to Pinot Noir.
Cordell recommends visiting Inniskillin, Jackson Triggs and Peller Estates, each just a few miles away from the golf club, and don’t miss PondView Estate Winery’s Cab Franc ice wine.

Castelfalfi Golf Club, Mountain Course
Tuscany, Italy
Head to Tuscany and the Chianti wine region, and you’ll find Toscana Resort Castelfalfi, a luxurious five-star hotel with 27 holes of golf, a wellness spa and multiple restaurants.
“I highly recommend this course due to its challenging yet picturesque nature, as the course carves its way through vineyards, olive trees and natural woodlands,” says Bowles. He also notes that the resort has its own 25-hectare vineyard where they cultivate their own wines that guests can taste right from the source.
“They also have a stylish clubhouse which used to be an old farmhouse that has been renovated,” adds Bowles. “Golfers can dine in the clubhouse restaurant and sample wines from the area while enjoying panoramic views of the Tuscan hills.” And plenty more wineries are located just 10 to 15 miles away.
Note: The resort is open, but the golf club is temporarily closed while it undergoes a Tom Fazio-led redesign. Look for it to reopen in 2026.
