Being confined at home for months, many people have been finding comfort in their kitchens by creating family-friendly meals and pairing them with their favorite wines or exploring new ones. Silverado Vineyards winemaker Jon Emmerich has teamed up again with James Beard award-winning author and cheese expert Laura Werlin to show you how to combine two favorite foods with two classic wines. Silverado just launched a new video pairing Laura’s Pizza Mac & Cheese with Ciabatta Croutons From her book, Mac & Cheese, Please!
When it comes to comfort food, as Laura says, “What’s better than pizza? Why, a pizza mac & cheese, of course!” This recipe features the ingredients from the best of the old-fashioned pizzas – pepperoni, mushrooms, and olives – and blankets them in a creamy mozzarella sauce. The recipe can be altered to echo the flavors of the home chef’s pizza of choice. The best part about bringing these two favorites together is that wine lovers can choose whether to focus on the cheese or the pizza when selecting their pairing. In the video, Jon recommends two from Napa Valley’s iconic Silverado Vineyards: Chardonnay – the classic cheese companion, and Sangiovese – the Tuscan varietal that famously pairs with pizza.
