Top Decision-Makers Fuel Rise in ProWein Attendance, Organizers Say

ProWein, the International Trade Fair for Wines and Spirits, reported a record-setting number of exhibitors and visitors at its March event in Düsseldorf, Germany, driven by increased investor demand, organizers said.

More than 6,500 exhibitors from more than 60 nations presented their creations to 58,500 trade visitors from 130 countries at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf. That’s an increase of more than 5 percent on last year’s total visitors, and an additional four countries represented.

At least two-thirds of all the trade visitors were top decision-makers and came to ProWein intending to invest, organizers said.

“ProWein is an incredibly intensive trade fair. For three days, very concentrated and effective business is done here,” said Hans Werner Reinhard, managing director of Messe Düsseldorf, which organizes the event.

“Visitors included key players—important importers and representatives from large international commercial chains. Again this year, the sector showed how strong and capable it is. An extremely high number of orders were placed and many new business ideas were discussed,” said Reinhard.

Nearly half the exhibitors were from Italy and France, followed by Germany, Austria, Spain and Portugal.

Messe Düsseldorf has two other wine trade fairs in its program: the first edition of ProWine Asia in Hong Kong in May 2017, following its successful debut in April 2016 in Singapore. ProWine Asia will alternate between Hong Kong and Singapore, and is Messe Düsseldorf’s second foreign wine-trade fair, in addition to ProWine China in Shanghai.

Next year’s ProWein will be in Düsseldorf again, from March 18–20.
