Pushing Borders and Boundaries
When looking to expand his family’s operations beyond Rioja, Martínez Bujanda did more than travel to Washington and kick dirt. The fifth-generation winery owner built a state-of-the-art, 20,000-square foot winery, tasting room and restaurant, the first international winery to build in the state since the 1980s.
Valdemar’s balconies, water features and high-end Spanish tapas raise the bar for visitor experience in Washington. The winery also provides braille menus and QR codes that lead to signed and spoken wine descriptions, among other tools that improve accessibility. “Everyone should have access to a great wine tasting experience,” Martínez Bujanda says.
