As the name suggests, Amuste is definitely a must. The culmination of a two-year endeavor to marry wine must and beer wort, this is an imperial porter accented with Tempranillo juice sourced from Odell's home state, Colorado, and aged in wine oak barrels. The aromas are a veritable mélange; with each sniff a new layer is revealed. Notes of tart red plum and cherry, cocoa powder, lightly toasted wood, caramel malt and espresso dance in the bouquet and on the palate, with background hints of licorice and leafy hops. Smooth and silky, with medium carbonation and a dry, long finish. Lauren Buzzeo

What Is Blind Tasting?

All tastings reported in the Buying Guide are performed blind. Typically, products are tasted in peer-group flights of from 5-8 samples. Reviewers may know general information about a flight to provide context—vintage, variety or appellation—but never the producer or retail price of any given selection. When possible, products considered flawed or uncustomary are retasted.
