We recently purchased this wine refrigerator, and it has 7 adjustable shelves so as to lay wine bottles horizontally. However, the photographs all show an option to have a half shelf, with upright bottles next to it. How do we arrange the shelves so as to store a few bottles upright?
New wine fridge purchaser on Jul 23, 2014
BEST ANSWER: You will have the option to use the adjustable shelves or to incorporate the shelf for upright bottle storage.
I lost power and when I unplugged the unit and plugged it in again, all it does is beep and the panel does not work. How do I fix this?
Matthew Y on Feb 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. Please call Wine Enthusiast at 800.648.6058 and choose option 2 to be connected to our technical department.
My Display is malfunctioning on mine is anyone else having this issue? It barley shows the temperature and the light goes out and flickers.
FL Gator on Sep 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I had the same problem and eventually it would not power up the display or light. Replaced the top circuit board in back of unit and this resolved the problem. Many thanks to Sal at Technical Support.
Can you store corked open bottles in the Wine Enthusiast Silent 18 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Refrigerator Slimline with Upright Bottle Storage?
Bill S on Apr 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I found some great 2-pack Rabbit wine sealer/tops, cone-shaped, perfect for storing a bottle on the side also, if needed (I have the earlier Slimline that does not allow stand-ups). Seals do not leak and are short so does not hit door. Found them at grocery store with wine accessories. Bright colored. Now I don't have to put opened bottles in fridge!
Being thermoelectric, does that mean it fluctuates according to room temperature or ambient temps? If so, how much does it fluctuate?
Cinda M on Aug 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I am not an expert on thermoelectric coolers but its my understanding that this is simply another way to control temperatures. The interior temperature is always maintained. We bought one these units about 2 yrs ago and have been very pleased with its performance. We have not noticed any fluctuation in the temperature inside the unit assuming the digital read out is accurate, and I believe it is.
electricity is shut off . How do I restart?
Gus M on Nov 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Don't know if I understand the question. Was there a power failure and the unit shut off and has not restarted? When the electricity came back on did you unplug the unit from the wall and then plug it back in again? Or do you need to go to your breaker box to restart the electricity flow in your house/apartment? (OR did you not pay your electric bill and the electricity is shut off )- LOL
This is the perfect size we need however we need the door hinge to be on the left so the door opens to the left. Is this possible?
null on Jul 27, 2011
BEST ANSWER: Perhaps the unit could be turned upside-down. The water tray wouldn't be functional, and the display would tke some getting used to, but there's no reason why the cooling function wouldn't work just as well.
I won this wine cooler from a raffle drawing. Can I store my wine in the top section, while my husband uses the bottom for his beer and whiskey bottles? What would be a good temp to set the bottom at?
Michelle on Jan 15, 2014
BEST ANSWER: You can but I think he will want his beer colder than 46 as the temp in a refrigerator is approx 40 degrees
Purchased the 18 bottle slimline. Wanted to know does it matter what section (upper or lower) you store your white and Reds? I want to store my whites/ Rose' in the upper section, is that ok?
Mike on Dec 6, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The top zone is 54-66 so for long term storage at 55 you can store your whites/rose.
If you want a service temp you would store in the bottom where the temp can go down to 46 degrees
I just bought this cooler and plugged it in. It’s very loud. I am hoping that is because it’s asjusting the temp and will be quiet once the set temps are reached ??
Marla W on Jun 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Even though this product is called "the Silent 18..." there is some fan noise when it is running. It is nowhere near as loud as an actual bar fridge, but there is a little noise. The good news is the fan sound is fairly constant, and easily falls into the background when normal room noise/conversations/kids, etc. kicks up.
Does the fan run all the time or only when it needs to? Trying to determine how much noise this unit will make.
Marnee K on Nov 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The compressor goes on & off, but it's so quiet I only notice it while sitting within 2-3 feet of the refrigerator. It's much quieter than a more expensive one I have in my other home.
I am curious if the overall width of the 18 bottle slimline is increased once you open the door? I only have 10" of space and would hate to not be able to use it properly because the door needs extra room to open
Mike G on Aug 6, 2016

Mine is 10" wide with to door closed. The overall width increases 1/4" with the door open. 10 1/4" overall. If the door is not completely recessed into your opening it would likely work as the door opens more outward than back (or into whatever is on the right side of it. Mine has worked like a charm ever since I bought it (about 2 years ago). I was a little leery due to some of the reviews saying it's noisy. Mine is freestanding in my kitchen and unless you look at it you would never know it's there. Just a little extra FYI for you that wasn't solicited.
I want to move the unit from one spot in my livingroom to another. I have to unplug it. Do I have to leave it for hours before plugging it again after moving it, like with fridges?

Love the unit, have had it for almost a year now!

Julian A on Aug 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No. Unlike compressors, these models are thermoelectrics. If it does make you feel a bit safer, let the unit sit for an hour or two but you would be good either way.
I have two of these and on both units the right temperature guage won't go above 58 degrees. I only use these for red wine. Any advice?
Susie Q on Feb 21, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hey Susie. I also have 2 of these, and love them. I have red in each and have them set at 59 degrees. I found no difference in degree, since we decant, or let the bottle breathe. I’ve never thought of changing the temp.
Just purchased this unit this week because it was supposed to be super quiet, but I've got a db reading between 45 and 49 ALL THE TIME. It's louder than my kitchen fridge. Is something wrong or is the "silent" part false advertising?
Michael F on Jan 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: i bought this unit a year ago, and it continuously produces a very low hum. Ours is on a hardwood floor. It is quiter since I put a small piece of carpet under it.
Certainly no where near as loud as you are describing.
My digital control in door has stopped working. Can this be fixed?
Deanna S on Nov 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I had that problem after a power outage in my area. After I unplugged the cooler, waited about a minute and plugged it in again. The control worked fine after that. Hope that helps.
How often does the water box need to be taken off and checked?
Tom L on Jun 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I've had mine over a year now and I've never had to check the water box....or even worried about it. All the water evaporates during normal cycling of the compressor.
How long is the cord? Going in the kitchen next to a counter and the outlet is above the counter, so I would need the cord to be a minimum of 48" in length.
RUTall2 on Sep 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Not sure about the length of the cord. However, I had to put some of the cord in the bottom back of the unit because of it's length.
Does the door open to the right or to the left?
Guillermo V on Nov 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Guillermo, this is a right hinged unit. The door opens from left to right. Thanks!
the upper half of my slimline will not go above 59 degrees. It displays e-6, etc. What should I do?
John W on Jun 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hope you are still in warranty period!
If you vacuum the fan in the back, unplug and plug back in after 30 seconds and still doesn't work it's probably electrics problem. If you use it for home use just remove the plastic divider in the middle so the top doesn't get isolated. 59 degrees is fine for red wine.
Those fridges are for red wines by the way.
They brake quite fast... every 2 years.

What is the depth in the interior? Will Riesling bottles fit on the shelves or are they too long?
Lake Lover on Sep 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: 13" rear to glass of door
It says maximum ambient temperature of 77. I live in an apt and the temp def goes into the 80s in summer, esp if i'm away and not running AC. Can this kind of wine storage unit be used in my case?
bbruce on Sep 9, 2016
Anything over 77 degrees this unit will struggle to keep temperature.
I would recommend looking in a cellar that has a compressor and not thermo electric cooling.
Feel free to contact one of our Wine Cellar Specialists @ 1-800-356-8466 to discuss.

Thank you.
How much space around the unit is required to allow adequate airflow ?
Larry W on Jun 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We have it running with less than 4" around back and one side but lots of space on other side and above ... think it will work with a little less space on one side if other sides make up for that...
Will it hold magnum bottles of wine and if so how many?
Savvygurl330 on Mar 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Also, you are able to adjust the wire shelves to accommodate larger bottles. The top portion of the refrigerator has optional shelving to store bottles upright, and that may also allow for larger bottles.
I don't have mine plugged into an extension cord per se, it is actually plugged into a power strip that accepts 3 pronged plugs. Is this okay?
The G on Jan 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm not an electrician but the City code where I live does not allow fridge/freezer to be plugged into GFCI outlets. It needs to be a grounded circuit but not a Ground Fault protected circuit....which is what a power strip is essentially.
can this be kept in a garage?
Ken on Dec 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Guess that depends on the climate where the garage is located, and if it's heated during cold weather and cooled during hot weather. Ambient temperature will definitely affect a small cooler's ability to maintain the internal temps that you need for your wine.
How much does the unit weigh?
Suzanne A on Nov 27, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hello Suzanne,
44 lbs.
Thank you.
where is the serial number?
Debbie on Nov 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It should be on the label on the back of the unit, however the line where it would be on mine is blank.
Hope yours isn't.
Can this be put on an enclosed porch? Thanks in advance!
Elizabeth P on Aug 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I Would not have a problem with an enclosed porch. Love mine. Super quiet and works as advertised.

Good cooling, bad shelves
Compact cools well, slips into narrow spaces. Negative comment and ratings ding are the shelves. Slide normally when empty, but put 2 bottles of wine on a shelf shelf does not come out without struggle or even unloading before it can be pulled out. This goes for all the shelves.

This was a Christmas gift and I love it. It is incredibly quiet. It chills the bottles perfectly, it is attractive. I use it to hold wines we have at home (as opposed to those in a locker at our wine club). This has been wonderful.

Ideal for Novice Wine-Lover!
I'm the only wine-drinker in the household, so large storage capacity is not an issue. This refrigerator does the job, runs relatively quietly (even in a warm & humid climate), and fits in a narrow space.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with this product.

Nice size, not really "silent"
Well made and the perfect size for the space we have. Seems to hold the temperature well. My only complaint is that in a quiet room, there is a noticeable sound coming from the fans. Not overly annoying but it's there.

Great Value
This is my 2nd wine fridge just like this I bought. One for my 2nd home and now I use it for my primary home. Great storage and love that 3 bottles stand up in this second one. Good quality.

Best Wine Fridge for Small Places
I bought this wine fridge as I live in a 1 bedroom apartment. It is perfect. Dual zone for white and reds and it is so quiet I never hear any noise from it. Works great and looks great. I highly recommend this produce.

Couldn't be more pleased
We own a small home in an over 55 community so this new wine refrigerator is in a corner of our dining room which is open to the kitchen and living room. It is so quiet, you'd have to put your ear down to it to hear it. The dual temperatures hold their own and red and white wines are chilled to perfection. We are so very glad we chose this particular model because it has a perfect footprint for our small space yet holds a good amount of wine. No regrets whatsoever.

Great Refrigerator
I would have given it a 5 rating with the exception that the legs underneath are too small for the front and the unit seems to be not level. The smoke front design blends in well with appliances and the width is excellent if you do not have a lot of space.
