where in the room should the unit be installed?
Lotusford on Nov 1, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Designed for simple through-the-wall installation, the unit fits between standard wall studs and a single piece mounting bracket eliminates the need for a support shelf. The SC has a 30ťF temperature differential. In order to keep your cellar at 55F, the area the unit exhausts into should not exceed 85F. Also, allow at least 12" from ceiling when mounting.

Looking to obtain how long the line set is for the WhisperKool SC 2000i-4000i? Thanks.
David K on Aug 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This system does not come with a line set. The unit is not a split system. It has the compressor and condensing unit all in the same box. There is no need for a line set.
can this unit be mounted on an interior wall? attic?
Rusty E on Nov 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It can be mounted on an interior wall. Venting and noise is the key. It is a relatively quiet unit but it is not quiet. It also emits warm exhaust so factor that in as well. It cannot be mounted in a closet without proper venting or it will overheat; if in a closet it must be vented somewhere such as through the ceiling and roof. We set ours up to vent through the ceiling in a closet into the attic and through a ridge vent. Make sure you get no less than a 6" vent to move the heat. It is a good unit and does a very good job, just has to be able to 'breathe.'
I had a 3000i but lost it in a fire it was vented into a large room. I have to change the location of my cellar and now it will be vented out doors. Is that ok with the 3000i?
rocky G on Oct 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I vented my whisper cool into an attic and this summer is cut out quite often as the difference in temperature between the cellar and the attic became too great and it was working too hard so it automatically cut off . I had to raise the cellar temp to 65 to reduce the difference and keep it going. I am not an expert but my judgement would be that it is much better to vent it outside to avoid this problem so I bought the ducting kit but I couldn't attach to the outlet because of the way it was installed so am stuck with this problem. A friend suggested I install AC in the attic but this seemed a bit drastic !
Is it possible to install the 2000i ducted? I have limited space in a small cellar and prefer to have the unit fully outside the cellar
Glen B on Apr 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Well, I have a pretty small space as well, under a stairwell. I have it vented into a closet, but I have to leave that closet door open or it gets too hot, which is not good for the unit. But it works great. That said, I plan to redirect it into my crawl space, which I think will work well. I hope that helps. Randy
What is the decibel level of the 2000i Model?
Peter H on Mar 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: About 55 decibels
can this unit be located on/near the floor? Also, where on the unit is the drain line attached? ie 10 inches from the top?
ssc on Mar 10, 2014
This unit is intended to be mounted ideally 3-6" below the ceiling, not the floor. The drain line is located on the bottom of the unit on the venting side of the unit.
Thank you
I will be replacing the 3000 unit. The photos of the 3000i suggest that the power plug is outside the cellar, not inside as was the case with the 3000. Am I missing something?
Arden on Aug 12, 2013
BEST ANSWER: On the Whisperkool SC Series, you are able to plug the unit from the back or the side of the unit which essentially would be the inside of the cellar. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us at 800 356 8466. Thank you
Must I leave the bottle thermometer plugged into the face of the unit at all times, in order for the unit to work properly? Is there an internal thermostat wherein I may leave the cord unplugged when not testing a liquid's temperature?
Herbie C on Nov 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The Whisperkool units monitor liquid temperature so yes it must remain plugged in all the time.
tiger on Apr 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: These units do not have remote thermostats. The read outs will be on the units.
I am installing 2 WhisperKool units SC3000 into my wine cellar.

They will be serviced off the same electrical panel.

What Amp capacity do you recommend
Heisenberg on Aug 7, 2014
BEST ANSWER: These require a 20 amp dedicated circuit each. If you two of them on at the same time you will need two 20 amp dedicated circuits.
will the 4000 series run on 120 volt 20 amp breaker
Tim on Jul 15, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The WhisperKOOL unit requires a dedicated 115-volt 20-amp circuit. Use a surge protector with the WhisperKOOL unit. Do not use a GFI (Ground Fault Interrupter) line.
I am looking for a unit that will cool the beer I brew. Does the thermostat allow a 38-45 degree inside setting? It will exhaust into a heated and cooled space so the ambient difference will not exceed the 30 degrees shown in the specs. Thanks.
Scott on Oct 19, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Hello Scott,
The temperature range that you can set this system is from 50-70 degrees. If you have any further questions please give one of our Wine Cellar Specialists a call @ 1-800-356-8466.
Thank you
I have an older XLT 3000. Will the new SC3000i fit in the same opening when it's time to replace the older unit? Are the dimensions the same?
Waxer on Jul 18, 2012

Frequent Replacement
I've had this wine cellar for 13 years, and I'm now facing my third Whisperkool 3000i unit. The most recent worked well, for a few years, then stopped cooling much below 5 degrees below outside temp; stopped draining water, etc. Since the unit is sealed, it is pretty impervious to maintenance - kind of like a guaranteed need to replace and not repair.
