Prior to her appointment with Wine Enthusiast, O’Keefe, who moved to Italy in 1991, wrote regularly on Italian wine for Decanter, as well as for World of Fine Wine and on She is a former contributing editor for Wine News magazine, and is the author of Franco Biondi Santi: The Gentleman of Brunello (Veronelli Editore, 2005), a recipient of a Gourmand Wine Book Award. Her latest two books are Brunello di Montalcino: Understanding and Appreciating One of Italy’s Greatest Wines (University of California Press, 2012) and Barolo and Barbaresco: the King and Queen of Italian Wine (University of California Press, 2014).


Elvira Bortolomiol
President, Consorzio Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG
Elvira Bortolomiol became a member of the Board of Directors of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Consortium in 2007 and has held the position of Vice President for several terms, the first woman in that role.
Elvira is involved in the protection and promotion of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Denomination both in Italy and abroad and is also Vice President of Bortolomiol, historic winery of the area that was founded in 1949 by his father Giuliano Bortolomiol and it is now managed by the all-female team of his wife and her four daughters.
After obtaining a Master’s Degree in Agriculture, Elvira took the opportunity to develop her skills by working both in the United States and South America. It was during this period that she began to form her vision of wine culture and the richness of its roots.

Diego Tomasi
Director, Consorzio Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG
Graduated with a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Science from the University of Padua.
From 1990 he obtained the permanent position, covering the Research position by CRA-VE “Research Centre for Viticulture and Enology” in Conegliano (TV). Since his enrollment, his research has been focused on the relationship between the vine and its environment. He has led several zoning studies and several projects related to the optimization of viticulture techniques and viticulture areas. From March 2015 to August 2017 he was the Director of CREA-VE.
Author and co-author of more than 200 scientific publications in national and international journals, including 16 books with zoning and landscape. His work “Terroirs of Conegliano Valdobbiadene”, on the origin of the quality of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG wines has recently been awarded a special mention by the OIV (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin).

Marta Battistella
Chief Sustainability Officer, Consorzio Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG
Marta Battistella began working at the Consortium Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG in 2019.
Her areas of focus include monitoring in the vineyard, drafting reports and technical articles, management of the SQNPI (sustainability) certification process, and collaboration in various research projects.
A graduate with Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural and Agro-Enviromental Sciences at the Free University of Bozen, South Tyrol, she has had a deep passion for nature.
