I have invested in Riedel glasses for a long time. The old glasses were thicker and didn't seem nearly as fragile as recent purchases. Is this because the stems are now lead free? Are there sturdier ones available, are these them? Thank you.
Be careful know what you are getting as it took me awhile to realize my disappointment. I am somewhat of a Riedel wine glass nut..I have even watched the making of the Sommelier glass and other presentations on YouTube. Sommelier was the line I had not purchased yet the look so beautiful but did not want to spend the money....so when I could get two for the price of one Ihad to do it and was so excited! When they arrived right away I noticed that they just were not as pretty as what I had seen...so I did some digging into the fine print. The value set is made of lead free crystal whereas the regular Sommelier glass is made with 24%lead crystal. I like my glasses and YES they do enhance the taste of the wine but I do not love them as I wanted to.
These glasses are a huge disappointment , I would not recommend purchasing ,I own several of the real burgundy and Bordeaux glasses and these are lightweight and feel like plastic. Rated 1 star because that was the lowest option.
Considering I paid over a hundred each for my other Sommelier Burg stems, 2 for just over a hundred cannot be passed up. Just be careful with your pours if you're not used to them: each one holds more than 750ml, and first time I got these I poured about a third of a bottle of Richebourg into one before I realized what was happening.
I already had 4 of these glasses but wanted 2 more for dinner parties. Although the paperwork that comes with the glasses state they're dishwasher safe I would never put them in a dishwasher. They're very thin and fragile but great for the wines and they're beautiful!
We love these 30+ ounce Top of the line Riedel glases! We use them for special occasions. When we go out to dinner with them , we wrap them in lots of bubble wrap and pack them in a basket! Spoiler alert! We use them for all red wines and AMARONE is our favorite red!
These a like balloons, they're very big. Delicate though, so be careful when you hand wash them. No twisting and watch out and avoid bonking the glass against something in and around the sink! Enjoy...
I had been given one each of the bordeaux and burgundy glasses as a gift. I approached them skeptically. Does a glass really make a significant difference? The answer is a resounding YES, particularly with older wines. While I could not justify the expenditure at regular prices, when Wine Enthusiast reduced the price by more than 50% the equation changed.
These glasses are very nice, they just don't look like how I pictured them (not as big). I guess I didn't read the description well enough. I also thought I was getting 4, but only got 2. Don't really consider it a "value" but my fault for not doing enough research.
