About Terre di Chieti

Nestled in the foothills of central Italy’s Abruzzo region, lies the Terre di Chieti IGT. As the wines of Terre di Chieti are not of DOC or DOCG status, vintners producing under this designation have certain flexibilities with winemaking and viticulture practices, such as which grapes may be grown and how long the wines may be aged. About 60% of the wines from the region are white, with a vast majority produced from the indigenous Pecorino varietal. Other popular grapes include Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio as well as smaller amounts of Moscato, which is used predominantly in the region’s sparkling wines. For red wine production, Sangiovese, Merlot and Montepulciano are the primary varieties, yielding medium-bodied wines with an intense ruby color and bountiful red fruit flavors.
