We imagine that the Dude—Jeff Bridges’s iconic character from beloved stoner hit The Big Lebowski—would be a purist about his cocktail of choice, the White Russian. But if he ever did stray from the drink’s standard formula of vodka, Kahlúa and cream? We like to think he might abide the RumChata White Russian.
Here’s why: The White Russian is already a creamy, coffee-laden delight with a fiery vodka kick. RumChata, a silky blend of Caribbean rum, Mexican spices and cream, only adds additional nuance and complexity. Our version swaps out the White Russian’s cream for half-and-half, since RumChata itself already contains cream. The resulting drink is sweet but not treacly, with notes of coffee and spices.
Is this version better than the original White Russian? We’re not trying to rock the boat here. The Dude would not abide. But yeah, it might be.
