This Watermelon Margarita Recipe is Pretty Irresistible

This watermelon margarita recipe is a fruity, frozen twist on the crowd-pleasing classic. Adapted from A Lime and a Shaker (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2015), by Tad Carducci and Paul Tanguay, the brightly hued drink is irresistible on a hot summer day.

A watermelon margarita cocktail is a surprisingly versatile canvas, too. Customize yours with a splash of orange liqueur or ditch the simple syrup if the watermelon is very ripe and sweet. You can also add a teaspoon of seeded and chopped jalapeño to your blender to make a spicy watermelon margarita with a vegetal kick.

Not in the mood for a frozen cocktail? Swap the ice in the blender for a 1/4 cup of cool water, and serve your watermelon margarita on the rocks.

The Best Tequila for Watermelon Margaritas

While some people prefer reposado tequila in classic margaritas, blanco tequila is best for this watermelon margarita recipe. It balances the fruit but keeps the overall flavor profile bright. Some of the most popular tequilas for margaritas include Montelobos Espadín Joven and Tanteo Blanco Tequila
