Is it possible to purchase a 48-bottle size, vs. the standard 40? Other multiples? (Ideal for my space is 7 bottles wide by 7 bottles high.) Or is it necessary to purchase two 40-bottle units and customize with much of the second unit left over?
Michael C on Feb 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I had a similar space situation. I have two spaces that needed 7 high x 7 wide. I bought a third 40 bottle unit and used some of the remaining pieces to create a 4 bottle unit that I keep in the kitchen on the counter. Not ideal to have so much left over, but I did fill my spaces nicely. I too wished there was a way to purchase additional components to make the perfect custom rack, but does not seem to exist. I am happy with the performance of the rack(s) however.
Are the openings wide enough for larger based Pinot noir bottles?
Miranda on Dec 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes you can put Pinot bottles on this rack. I love my racks. I bought my original set of racks 25 years ago and they have been moved several times and reconfigured several times and I have added to my original purchase a couple of times. Love them
Does this come in white? Or can it be painted white?
Cindy E on Sep 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: If it isn't white in the catalog, it can be painted (I think). But depending on the size of the rack, I can only imagine spray painting it after it is assembled in its final configuration. It would be tedious!
Is it possible to use the rack in a vertical configuration?
Katherine on Jun 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The Modular 40 Bottle Wine Rack (Natural) is designed specifically to be horizontal but I am sure it will work just as well vertically. I strongly suggest you attach the rack to a wall stud to secure it properly.
I have space that is 24 inches deep. Can these be installed front-to-back, 2 deep? Would reaching past the one in front to the bottles in back be a problem? Would you need to leave a gap between the two?
Charles B on Apr 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Each rack is 11-inches deep, a typical wine bottle is 12-inches tall. So yes, you would need to leave a gap. You would only be able to reach a bottle in the back in same slot where the front rack was empty. So it would quickly become a memorization problem unless your storing pairs of identical bottles in corresponding front and back slots. Have you considered building several smaller racks and rotating them 90 degrees in the same space - although you would fit less bottles in total at least you could see everything?
How deep is the rack?
Caylx on Aug 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The octagonal beams are 11" long.
Rack depth = 11"
Width & Height = Cells x4" plus 1 3/8"
Could I buy multiple of these and stack them up? Trying to build wine storage in a closet with 12 foot ceilings. Thanks!
Chris on Aug 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The Modular 40 Bottle Wine Rack (Natural) can be stacked. I have attached the manual to assist you with your project. It might be prudent to attach your rack to wall studs to ensure its stability.

A step in the right direction, but...
Service and delivery was satisfactory.

count on breaking some of the extra pegs
modular design is great. mallet is essential to assemble. I had to sand down ends of pegs to get good fit without breaking too many pegs.

not a satisfactory product
very difficult and time-consuming to assemble; poor quality of wood; followed directions but large unit did not square properly

terrific and expensive storage solution
I used two orders of this product to customize my everyday wine storage in a closet. Works perfectly and looks attractive. Definitely buy a rubber mallet to put this puppy together. The assembly isn't difficult, but it definitely takes some time. Would definitely purchase again and recommend.

Versatile plus!
I assembled the units to fit within my shelving units in the wine cellar. Added a large amount of additional storage space, in an attractive manner.

Mahogany splits worse than old version
Owned an older version of this rack. Bought two more and had 3 dowels split when pounding in the pegs. Seems like the harder wood does nothing for strength but splits easier during assembly.

Better than expected.
Excellent product; very well finished and sturdy. [...] Not difficult to put together, but it does take time and effort. I use mine unfinished but unit can be stained to use in a more formal area.

I really like this system!
I am assembling our fourth 40-bottle kit and could not be happier! I have had absolutely no issues with these kits and find that they are superior, in many ways, to other kits we've used.

If you follow the directions, they go together quickly and securely. Some creative thinking can overcome some of the minimal alignment issues as you scale multiple kits together. Pre-planning and patience makes this system an excellent value. If you tend not read the instructions, are not patient, and willing to be careful, buy something else.

I will continue using these kits to build out our 350+ wine cellar.
