Keyatta Mincey-Parker
Executive Director, A Sip of Paradise
Atlanta, Georgia
When the pandemic closed bars in Atlanta and elsewhere, acclaimed bartender Mincey-Parker built a “bartenders’ garden.” The non-profit spacegrows herbs, fruits and vegetables that might be used in drinks—but it became so much more: namely, a resource to combat food insecurity and a gathering space of peace for hospitality pros. “I have built a safe space for my bar community to have weekly wellness activities like yoga, meditation and mindful conversations about mental health,” Mincey-Parker says. The garden also includes a for-profit arm, Pieces of Paradise, which sells tisanes, herbal bundles, oils and more, with a profitsharing model for members. Looking ahead, Parker envisions bartenders’ gardens in other areas, including one in Liberia, where she grew up.
