We asked the customer to share some comments about the design and construction of this unique, custom wine cellar…
“While Visiting California wine country we joined several wine clubs. After receiving the first shipments from those wineries it became apparent we would need an efficient way to store the wine. As Wine Enthusiast customers, my husband and I recalled seeing the custom wine rack advertisements. So we decided to begin the process of having a custom wine cellar designed and Wine Enthusiast representative, David Moseler, assisted us with how to begin.
Right from our initial consultation we were able to narrow down their wish list into something that would fit within their space and budget without comprising on style, bottle count or their various larger bottle formats.
The best location was our basement where there was an unfinished storage room. To finish and properly prep the room we hired a local contractor and gave him the guidelines provided by David. The construction details were geared toward finishing a room that would best maintain 55 degrees, and in order to maintain that proper temperature a cooling unit was also purchased from Wine Enthusiast. David was great in assisting us with selecting the correct size and style of unit for the room.
The client, contractor and I had to ensure the room was built properly as well as decide which style and size cooling system would create the optimal climate for the cellar.
As we moved along through the project there were, of course, questions and David was always kind, patient & reassuring on how to construct the wine cellar. Once the room was finished with walls up, porcelain tile laid, electrical outlets & recessed lights installed the final room measurements were taken in order to have the racks built for a perfect floor to ceiling custom fit. The projected cellar capacity was approximately 1,200 bottles and the racks would be made of All Heart Redwood.
Once we had final dimensions, we were able to modify the design, taking into account soffits for electrical, and modify the room to showcase their prized bottles all while keeping a fluid and symmetrical design.
Our custom wine cellar racking had arrived...."Exciting!" The contractor began building and installing the racks and the exterior grade wood distressed door which gives it a true old world look. In our design we also wanted to incorporate our garden's bounty as well as a cigar humidor and all was beautifully completed. It was time to invite our friends over for a viewing and wine tasting with hors d'oeuvres. They all loved it! So much so that one of our friends is currently working with David on their own wine cellar. Success all the way around. Cheers!"
Installation is when the dream cellar comes to life. In fact, their neighbor's cellar was just completed as well! There is nothing better than knowing that our collective efforts resulted in a cellar that will be enjoyed for years to come. Cheers!
