Although we’re serious about spirits, not every bottle is meant to be taken super-seriously. With that in mind, we’re launching an occasional series of reviews of the weird, wild and whimsical spirits that sometimes cross our desk.
These casual reviews aren’t intended to replace the more rigorous tasting standards we employ across the year. But sometimes, we just want to have a little fun—and we bet you do, too.

First up: a waffle-inspired cream liqueur with a Tennessee moonshine base.
Eggo Brunch in a Jar Waffles & Syrup Cream Liqueur is, well, exactly what it sounds like. Presented in a mason jar emblazoned with the image of a waffle and the familiar yellow-and-red Eggo logo, the offering smells like vanilla and maple syrup. You can detect a whiff before the jar is even opened. (Note: Pouring it from the mason jar without spilling is challenging. You’ve been warned!)
Look for a light brown hue, resembling chocolate milk, and strong maple and vanilla aromas. The palate is creamy—this is a cream liqueur, after all—though it’s clear from first sip there’s some underlying booze. The flavor echoes maple and vanilla, with a final buttery caramel exhale. Overall, this is dangerously easy-drinking, as many cream liqueurs can be, and holds up well compared to other cream liqueurs.
What’s in the bottle (er, mason jar): a cream liqueur produced and bottled by Sugarlands Distilling Company in Gatlinsburg, TN. It holds 750 ml, the same as a standard full-size liquor bottle. The product is a partnership between Eggo, owned by Kellogg’s, and Sugarlands’ Appalachian Sippin’ Cream, a sweet-tooth-inspired line of liqueurs, which last year included the (now sold out) Eggo Nog. This year’s product is more sweet—like uncooked waffle batter—than spiced. We wouldn’t mind it with a side of crisp bacon.
