The crucial component of martinis is finally getting some official and well-deserved recognition. The president of the Vermouth Institute of Torino, Roberto Bava, told members “the appellation ‘Vermouth di Torino’, the original name and origin for this category, has gained the legal protection of ‘Indicazione Geografica.’ From now on, this appellation is allowed only when the product is made within this region in Italy.”
Bava, who couldn’t hide his satisfaction, noted in the email that “As a consequence, the industry agreed to found a ‘Vermouth di Torino Institute’ to promote the appellation and to support all the authorities involved in the quality control and protection.”
Mionetto USA’s ‘Pink Cork for the Cause’ Raises $70,000 for Charities
Prosecco importer Mionetto USA, a supporter of Breast Cancer Awareness, raised $70,000 in charitable donations for three groups: The Bridge Breast Network in Dallas, Wings in Selma, Texas, and Breast Cancer Research Foundation in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Honoring Breast Cancer Awareness month, Mionetto’s Pink Cork for the Cause program first began in 2015 and is aimed at raising awareness and supporting research. The company has raised $70,000 from its consumers for the charities.
According to BreastCancer.org, over 300,000 new cases of breast cancer are estimated to be diagnosed in women in the United States. “Despite the increased awareness and medical advancements, breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women. We want to give back to our extended family of loyal customers and help put an end to this horrible disease,” said Enore Ceola, Managing Director and CEO of Mionetto USA.
Another Torrontés from Argentina Lands in U.S.
Bodegas Trivento, an Argentinian estate in Mendoza and U.S. importer Excelsior Wines, announced the spring release of “White Orchid,” a blend of Torrontés and Pinot Grigio grapes. With an approximate retail price of $11, the grapes for the Trivento White Orchid Reserve come from high-altitude vineyards in Mondoza’s Uco Valley.
Excelsior Wines is a partnership between Concha y Toro of Chile and Banfi Vintners. The portfolio also includes the California wines of Little Black Dress from Fetzer Vineyards, acquired by Concha y Toro in 2011.
