Not only did 2019 mark ProWein’s 25th anniversary, but it also proved to be another record-breaking year for the wine and spirits annual trade show in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Some 61,500 visitors (up from 60,500 last year) hailing from 142 countries attended the business-to-business trade show, according to the event’s producer Messe Düsseldorf.
Messe Düsseldorf also emphasized that the show’s “strictly industry-only concept” was a significant factor in the fair’s continuing success, noting “the share of visitors with decision-making authority reached a new high with more than 80% of visitors involved in purchasing decisions,” in a press release.
The show stretched over ten halls, with 6,900 exhibitors from 64 countries and presented a diverse range of wine and spirits.
German Minister for Agriculture Julia Klöckner acknowledged at Sunday’s opening ceremony “right from the start you focused on trade and B2B [business to business]. ProWein is a special, well-established showcase for the industry,” she said. “My congratulations for 25 successful years go out to the organizers. This is a global hub for the wine business. What originally started with 321 exhibitors has now expanded this year to almost 7,000—a remarkable success story.”
The dedicated space for craft beers, ciders and spirits that launched last year in a separate hall under the Same but Different title is set to become a permanent feature.
While expanding internationally, Messe Düsseldorf also announced growth at home.
An “expanded hall layout” is expected for 2021 once “extensive fairground renovations” are completed.
The next ProWein Düsseldorf will take place from March 15–17, 2020. Before that, there is ProWein Asia in Hong Kong on May 7–10, 2019, and ProWein China in Shanghai from November 12–14, 2019.
