Updated March 5, 2020: Due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, Messe Düsseldorf, organizers of annual trade show ProWein, have announced a full cancellation of this year’s event. The exhibition will be postponed until March 21–23, 2021.
Erhard Wienkamp, managing director at Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, cited the narrow window in which it’s practical for the industry to hold the show, as a primary factor behind the decision.
“Against this background the decision is the only correct conclusion to be drawn, all in the interest of the wine and spirits industry,” said Wienkamp, in a statement.
Visitor tickets as well as exhibitor partnerships will remain valid for next year’s event. Messe Düsseldorf has asked all inquiries to be directed to ticket@messe-duesseldorf.de
Messe Düsseldorf, organizers of ProWein, the world’s biggest international drinks trade show, have announced a postponement of the 2020 event, originally slated for March 15–17, due to concerns over the recent coronavirus outbreak.
The event, which annually draws over 60,000 visitors to Düsseldorf and was expected to feature 6,900 exhibitors from across the globe, is hoped to still be held on alternative dates yet to be determined. Organizers say the decision to postpone was reached following the recommendation of the German government’s crisis management experts, including those of the Robert Koch Institute, who monitor disease control and specialize in risk assessment of major events.
“Our customers, partners and employees trust us,” said Werner M. Dornscheidt, CEO of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH. “Not only when it comes to the professional and successful handling of major international events in Düsseldorf. They can also have this trust in us when we make decisions about critical situations in the interests of their safety.”
Thomas Geisel, Lord Mayor of the City of Düsseldorf and chairman of the supervisory board of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, said, “This decision was not an easy one for all concerned. But the postponements at the present time are necessary for Messe Düsseldorf and its customers in view of the increasingly dynamic developments.”
We will continue to update on future plans for ProWein as details become available.
