This is from Barossa's Western Ridge area that is known to produce some of the region's most muscular, rich reds. Aromas are lifted with heaps of spice and roasting herbs amidst plush cherry fruit, underpinned by more savory umami nuances like black olive and soy sauce, and what seems to be a signature terra cotta note. The palate is as plump and mouth filling as the nose suggests. It well balanced and should cellar until 2030 at least. Christina Pickard

What Is Blind Tasting?

All tastings reported in the Buying Guide are performed blind. Typically, products are tasted in peer-group flights of from 5-8 samples. Reviewers may know general information about a flight to provide context—vintage, variety or appellation—but never the producer or retail price of any given selection. When possible, products considered flawed or uncustomary are retasted.
