A well-balanced and easy to like stout, the oysters for this beer are farmed in Great South Bay on Long Island and hand crushed by the brewers, while the added salt is sources from Amagansett, making this quite the local representation. The nose as rich and roasty upfront, with supporting notes of dried dark fruits and cocoa as well as a back note of brine. The palate is medium in body, creamy and satisfying in bold flavors of roasted malts, nuts, espresso bean and cocoa nib yet balanced by a slight minerality that comes through after the sip and graces the close. Lauren Buzzeo

What Is Blind Tasting?

All tastings reported in the Buying Guide are performed blind. Typically, products are tasted in peer-group flights of from 5-8 samples. Reviewers may know general information about a flight to provide context—vintage, variety or appellation—but never the producer or retail price of any given selection. When possible, products considered flawed or uncustomary are retasted.
