That ‘Best Buy’ High
Is there anything more satisfying than the thrill of a good deal?
I’ve recently moved into a new home. As the congratulations and cardboard boxes disappeared in unison, I was left with the realization that I was fully burned out on spending. I imagine it’s a sentiment many of you have shared after a big move. However, I still needed more stuff. What’s a gal to do? That’s when my quest began.

I started scouring the internet for all the alternative ways of procuring more “stuff” for less. Between estate sales, yard sales and vintage finds, I found so much joy in uncovering treasures for my home. I couldn’t stop talking about it to anyone who would listen. I became obsessed. I had tapped into one of life’s greatest pleasures— the art of getting more value for your dollar.
I think we’ve all had that experience—when you snag something worth well beyond its asking price. It’s a special moment when you feel as though you’ve hacked the system. That’s the joy and pleasure we hope to put forth with our annual November Best Buys Issue.
Our editors pour over 25,000 wines every year to find the wines they love. From there we ask, “Which ones are punching well above their weight and offering the greatest bang for the buck?” Here you have the Top 100 Best Buys from 2023 that truly deliver far beyond their price tags. It’s almost like finding the perfect emerald green vintage desk for $45. Did I mention I’ve been bargainshopping lately?
This year’s list is even more special than those past. It’s our first Best Buy list in history to be made up of wines exclusively rated over 90 points. That means every last bottle will give you that magical thrill of a deal from the first pop. If you need to reach me, I’ll be sitting in my Adirondack chair from a yard sale down the block while sipping the 95-point Podere Giardino Lambrusco I got for $13. That’s living rich. —Jacqueline Strum, Editor & Publisher, WE Media
