I loved the way the glass created complexity in even inexpensive wines. It was great - for the first 3 weeks. Then while I was washing them carefully by hand one night, the stem of one glass snapped as I loosely held it in one hand. This is unbelievable. And unacceptable.
This is a great wine glass for any wine on any occassion. Although it is light and delicate to hold it doesn't feel like it would easily break. The shape is beautiful and functional for enhancing the wine drinking experience. The cost of replacing a broken glass is the only concen my wife and I have when entertaining casually.
Yes, there are a number of wine glasses out there that are arguably better value propositions but if one wants sheer elegance, lovely esthetics along with an enhanced tasting experience then these should be your choice. Actually, in view of their quality they represent more than a fair value for the price.
No doubt that i was hesitated at first place. then i read many reviews about this zalto glass, and bought 2 bordeaux to see how they re like. Not just the quality but the customer service was oustanding. Will get the universal and burgendy next. Just cafeful when u hand wash them. I only had this for 2 weeks.
Actually had a couple of them for a year or two as recommended by a wine columnist. The dined recently at marvelous (very expensive) restaurant in London: Helene Darroze at the Connaught. They use these glasses to good effect. Bowled over! Returned home. Bought half a dozen (Bordeaux) when we returned to our New York apartment. Bowled over again. Expect them to float around the dinner table if we don't hold onto them.
I bought one glass for my husband's birthday. After experimenting with it, I knew I had to have my own glass. So rather than taking his birthday gift out of his hands, I opted to place an order for a second Zalto glass, one that I could call my own! We compared a Turley Zin in the Zalto glass with a Riedel Vinum glass. The Zalto glass brought out more flavors than the Riedel (I know, hard to believe!!). The wine also took on more dimension and fullness and even the aromas were more pronounced. I bought this glass because of positive reviews by both professionals and individuals and I was not disappointed. Don't be afraid of its fragile look. I'm just very careful when I hand wash the glass.
I initially bought this glass as a gift for my sister-in-law and she loved it so much I asked for it for Valentine's day. What I didn't realize at the time was that I was only ordering one glass. Yes this is a lot to spend for one glass but I absolutely notice a difference in the taste of my wine. It is amazing, even my best friend tried my glass and was completely blown away that you can drink the exact same wine from 2 different glasses and it tastes completely different. I have the Bordeaux and will absolutely be looking for other glasses in this line.
i was replacing a glass that was broken by accident my son in law has several of your glasses he thinks they are just great he is very much a wine enthusiast has a very nice wine cellar my husband was the one that broke the glass
Although I've read several articles about the importance of good wine glassware, I've always used inexpensive glasses. My skepticism changed when I read a Wall Street Journal article that compared several brands of wine glasses used with several different wines. The writer was skeptical before her experiment, but quickly found that wine tastes a lot better in a Zalto. I found that to be true as well. I usually drink red wines - mostly Bordeaux, Spanish, and Italian. But I first tried this glass out with an inexpensive California wine my brother had, and it tasted great. We were both surprised.
I first used these glasses at restaurant Akalere in San Sebastien Spain. When I came home I immediately ordered some from Wine Enthusuast. They are beautiful, amazingly delicate, and make all red wine taste as it should. I have been using Riedel Sommelier's prior which are great but these are the best ever!
I had Zalto Burgundy glasses and really loved them. Decided to try Bordeaux glass. Mistake! Whereas the Burgundy glass is nicely balanced, the Bordeaux glass is not. The stem is way too long and feels extremely fragile. Also the opening is rather small even for a smaller hand to clean the glass. Glad I bought only one to try. Recommend with a lot of reservation only for those who must have a super thin wine glass.
I wanted some high end wine glasses and decided on the Zalto. It is a beautiful glass and a pleasure to drink from making the wine enjoyment a great experience. The only problem was how fragile the glass is. After many uses and very careful hand washing the stem just snapped when my wife was hand washing them. As much as I enjoy the glass I would not buy them again. Simply too fragile and too thin a stem.
I loved this glass for the 4 months it lasted. It was fun to drink from and the wines seem to open up much quicker. I have had the same wine glasses for years and one night after having the Zalto for a mere 4 months it broke unexpectedly.
Loved it but I am not spending another 60 some dollars for a glass that breaks. I am going back to Reidel!
