How does Savino's float actually keep the O2 from affecting the wine since it does not proivide an airtight seal?
I have an old glass carafe system with a stopper that sits firmly in the neck on the liquid leaving no room for O2. this looks like it leaves a portion of the surface exposed.
Bruce on Dec 9, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Hello Bruce,
A silicone rim around the float that perfectly fits the carafe and prevents oxygen from hitting the surface of the wine.
Is the barrier easy to remove for cleaning?
tem14 on Apr 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes it is very easy to remove. We find this Carafe much easier to clean than our decanter. We have been very pleased with it.
Do I need to refrigerate the Savino wine preserver even if the wine is red?
Birgitta B on Aug 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I would recommend so for better preservation. just make sure to take it out before next time drinking and let it stay in room temperature for a while to reach its serving temperature.
Question about aeration - is the act of pouring a cab into this decanter aeration enough? Or would you use an aerator while pouring into the decanter, or while pouring into the glass? I'd love to hear what you think. Thank you for all the response to my last question.
tem14 on Apr 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Don't use an aerator while pouring into the Savino. It adds oxygen contact to the wine and promotes oxidation which is against the purpose of the Savino in preserving the wine. The best time to use an aerator is when you pour into a glass or decanter, but it will be very difficult to pour into an aerator from the Savino.
Does anyone know how I would purchase a new silicone grommet for the float? Mine disappeared somewhere in the dishwashing cycle and I can't seem to find where I can purchase one.

BEST ANSWER: We are sorry to hear you "lost" the Savino Wine Saver Carafe float in your dishwasher. The only thing we can suggest is to reach out directly to them - here is their support email address - We don't sell the insert separately here at Wine Enthusiast.
The rubber seals are stretched out due to frequent use. Can I buy replacement seals?
Suzanne T on Jun 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, we do not have a replacement seals for this item. We can, however work with you on replacing this item at a discount.
Can I use to drink a little bit every day, or after I put the wine into the savino in the next time I have to drink all the wine?
Eduardo on Oct 25, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The Savino Wine Carafe can hold wine for a few days and maintain the freshness. You can drink a little each day without having to drink all of it at one time.

What you see is not what you get
Seems like it's a good idea but the execution is just so-so.

Yes, it works essentially as described. Wine was undamaged after 48 hours and drinkable up to 72. If the glass were well made, I think results would be better. It beats the vacuum methods.

This is not an elegant display piece, it's much heavier and more irregular than the example in the photos. I wouldn't set it out with my Spiegelau glasses.

Finally, my wine lasts longer!
Am getting Savino for everyone I know as a gift! After years of tossing out wine that clearly wasn't going to last longer than a couple days, I now have an extra glass or so days later. Feel like I am saving a ton of money. Plus, it makes for a fun party trick, because the prservation stopper slides to stay tight with the liquid, regardless of how you are holding the glass. My guests couldn't believe it

Even works well on French wine!
The best option for saving an open bottle yet. I have tried many options...gas, vacuvin, Etc. and this works better and easier.
I am buying two more today.
Anybody want to buy a slightly used Eurocave two bottle vacumn thingy?

Fantastic product - very effective.
What a great product! Savino is easy to use, works better than anything out there and best of all it's durable enough for the dishwasher (unlike thin-walled glassware products). I've been using Savino to serve wine directly from on the table, and it impresses my friends each and every time - little do they know they're drinking last week's wine.

Better than expected
Purchased two one as a gift one for myself. Wine tastes as good a week later as when put into the carafe. The one given as a gift got me a call with "this really works a lot better than our air pump".

Did Not Sufficiently Preserve The Wine
I had used the Savino in attempting to preserve unconsumed bottles of wine and it did not do so to satisfaction. I even purchased argon gas spray cans to augment the Savino but I can still detect significant oxidation in the wine after storing the unconsumed wine using Savino in the refrigerator after only one day.

I initially open a bottle of wine and poured from it for a couple of hours and then pour the leftover into the Savino, placed the disc over the wine, then sprayed argon gas into the Savino then closed the lid. I stored it in the refrigerator to further reduce the rate of oxidation. After one day, I can taste significant level of oxidation in the wine.

After trying a few bottles in the Savino unsuccessfully, I read the instructions and reviews more carefully to see if I missed something, I then improved my procedures by pouring the entire bottle of wine into the Savino immediately after uncorking, place the disc over the wine immediately to minimize contact with air, then pour a couple of glasses of wine from the Savino with the disc in it. I then immediately sprayed argon gas into the Savino chamber to further isolate oxygen and then place the Savino into the refrigerator.

Unfortunately, I can still easily detect oxidation in the wine the next day. It improved somewhat from my first method but the taste still has changed and not satisfactory.

I think the act of pouring the wine from the bottle into the Savino has already provided enough contact with oxygen to began the degradation process.

A convincing concept and theory but in practice it is not sufficiently effective. So far nothing has worked for me, I tried Foodsaver vaccum, argon gas with stopper, Savino, and even the expensive Coravin system.

This product is fantastic. We have found that if you pour a whole bottle of wine into it and let it set (unrefridgerated) for a couple of days the wine is much smoother and all or most of any harshness is removed.

I plan to get a couple more just to store the wine in for consumption later.

A great wine Saver!
I previously used a vacuu-vin to save my wine . However sometimes it would lose the vacuum and there went the wine. The Savino Wine Saver Carafe is full proof. I have been using it for over a year and highly recommend it. You can't go wrong buying is product.

Great Wine Saver Carafe!
I highly recommend the Savino carafe. It works as described, extending the freshness of wine better than any other product I have tried.
