Doesn't hold large bottles (Pinot)

This is a functional way to hold a lot of wine. As previously mentioned you need to build a little spacer to push it off the wall as the mounts aren't long enough and don't allow for the bottles to rest securely unless you add a couple of inches space. But the biggest thing is pinot bottles don't fit. The squares aren't big enough. I bought one similar to this a couple of years ago and thought I was getting the same thing, but no. So since I have both it doesn't matter to me, but I would be very upset if I didn't have somewhere else to put large bottles.

Easy to install, but the spacing for the bottles is uneven... some bottles fit in some spaces but not others. Most of my larger bottles don't fit at all. Also, need a way to add space behind the rack for longer bottles.

Very Disappointed

The design makes this unit very easily bent, which makes it impossible to assemble properly. Mine arrived with just a slight bend in the metal, but this was enough to keep the pieces from lining up, making it unusable. Very disappointing.

These racks works perfectly with Bordeaux and standard Chardonnay bottles. Unlike many racks, these also work well with half-bottles. I added 1" of depth to the rack by attaching 1x2 strips to the wall (toggle bolted) and then used the included screws to attach the rack to the wood. I prefer this to using the included plastic wall anchors. Since I was building 5 racks side-by-side, I ran three wood strips horizontally at the height of the mounting brackets. The greater depth is more secure and permits storage of taller (Italian and other fancy types) bottles.

Use another type of rack for Large Formats, Champagne and Burgundy bottles.

These racks look very nice. Based on comments in other reviews and the cheap price, my wife was worried that they would be difficult to assemble and look cheap. They are neither cheaply made nor difficult to assemble!

I don't think you can beat the capacity per dollar. Good practical storage. Doesn't handle anything but standard diameter bottles. I was a bit surprised to see it how low it sits and that the wall mounts are part of the structure that hold the two halves together. I wouldn't be comfortable unless it was screwed into a couple of wall studs. With this much capacity you can easily put a couple [$] of wine in it. Wouldn't hurt to go buy some longer screws and mount it solidly, you'll need some confidence in your ability to secure it to the wall.

Cons:

we put these racks in our basement on the north wall. The instructions did not specify what size drill bit to use, so we had to improvise. One of the anchors split during installation and we had to replace it. Also, the supports wanted to slip off of the front grid, so we secured them with cable ties to keep them in place. All in all, we got what we paid for, and it is very efficient storage.

The grids are not welded square so when installed the units do not look square to the room. They do supply storage for a large number of bottles at a very cheap price compared to wooden stoarge units.

The description says holds "standard bordeax-size wine bottles" what it really means is "DOES NOT WORK for Burgundy- or Rhone-size wine bottles". If you want to use this rack to store your entire collection, you may be disappointed. But, if you have other ways to store non-standard bottles, this a sturdy, easy-to-assemble, compact alternative.

Only One Flaw that I can see
By Eleanor the WineauxVerified Purchaser from Nashville, TN on 11/29/2007
Pros:

Cons:
The slots are not large
Best Uses:
Wine Cellar Storage
Describe Yourself:
Bargain Hunter, Frequent Entertainer, Practical, Stylish
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The racking system works great, but the slots are not large enough to hold Syrah bottles and I had to store them in our magnum rack. That is the only negative I see with this. Perhaps they could enlarge the slots just slightly enough to hold the large 750ml bottles.

Nice idea but installation falls short.
By PlumbbobVerified Purchaser from Beverly, MA on 11/21/2007
Pros:
Efficient Use of Space, Good Capacity, Holds Bottles Securely
Cons:
Flimsy, Flimsy brackets anchors, Grid not made square, Not spaced off wall enoug
Best Uses:
Wine Cellar Storage
Describe Yourself:
Frequent Entertainer, Practical
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I use this product for wine cellar storage. It is perfect for this as it holds a lot of bottles in a small area. Installing it was difficult however, and could have been much simpler if just made with better quality brackets and craftamanship. The grid was not made perfectly square wich made it difficult to put up level. The brackets did not space the grid far enough from the wall to allow the bottles to go far enough into the grid to be secure. The brackets also did not hold the grid well enough to keep from slipping off. If you are mechanicaly inclined and have enough inginuity, these problems can be overcome but, give yourself some time.
