This product was exactly what we ordered. Great wine rack for the price. We bought two of the mahagony racks and have them in our formal dining room. They look great.
Very difficult to assemble. Pre drilled holes were not drilled at an angle as described. I had to purchase a drill bit to properly assemble unit. Shelves are warped, making some bottles very difficult to insert. Overall not what we expected on our first purchase.
Exactly what I expected. Great value for the money.
With this one, know what you're getting: Cheap per bottle storage that is reasonably sturdy (in my cellar, I needed some single bottle storage so I stacked them 3 high and connected 7 stacks together and attached each rack to the wall), but that are a royal pain to assemble!!! Finally, after assembling the first 5, I got a system down and the last 16 went pretty smoothly. After the first one, I seriously considered sending the whole lot back!!!
It required a lot of screwing but in the end it was a good purchase.
Not as nice as I thought it would be - very light wood, and difficult to put together (lots of screws and takes a long time.) [...].
If your smart you will not buy this product. The design is such that you must manually screw 30+ screws into a small area with less than 3 inches of clearance space. If that's not bad enough, the screws are poor quality and strip easily making it impossible to disassemble in order to send it back. Don't make the same mistake I did. Buy another rack.
Not sure I would purchase again. This is the third time I've bought these as a gift for one of my sons. The first two were great. Then Christmas 2005 the two I bought did not have the holes drilled properly and he went through two more sets until finally you put them together. Before ordering again for Christmas I was assured the problem had been taken care of. This morning my son called and said the holes were not properly drilled on an angle again and he has been in touch with your customer service. Not worth the hassle.
I am very disappointed in this rack. It is a nightmare to assemble. As another reviewer noted, the pre-drilled holes are not at an angle, as promised by the instructions. This makes it very difficult to get any sort of screwdriver or drill on them. Then I discovered the screws strip if you try to simply screw them into the wood, so pilot holes are necessary. The wood is soft, so it cracks/splits if the pilot hole is too small. Once I figured out how to do it, it went fairly quickly. Until then, it was very frustrating, especially because of the misleading and inaccurate instructions and overall poor design.
When all is said and done, I'm not sure this rack is worth the effort required to put it together. The wood slats are thin and flimsy, and overall the piece looks and feels like they simply slapped a thin (and uneven) coat of varnish on raw pine. But, it looks ok from a distance, and the basement is dimly lit, so it suffices for storage.
The idea of purchasing this item was to prevent me from building one from scratch. The only thing I didn't have to do was cut the pieces and stain them. I had to disassemble the components, drill pilot holes for the screws, and reassemble the rack in a different sequence than the directions prescribed. It is great once you get it properly assembled. If you can't DIY, skip this one.
The racks were a good choice. I ordered 4 and stacked them in pairs. The first 3 were fine. The last one had absolutely no screws for putting it together. I had to stop, get screws and then finish putting them together a week later. Quality control is obviously an issue...
[...] Directions for assembly had mistakes and it was very awkward to put together (couldn't use the power screwdriver). Wooden slats in the middle are pretty thin and flimsy.
Now that it's built, this unit is doing its job nicely. I have two of them, one stacked on the other.
However, contrary to the instructions, the pre-drilled holes that connect each shelf to the sides were NOT drilled at an angle for easier access with a screwdriver, but were drill-pressed-perfectly straight up and down. Thus, getting a screwdriver in place to do the assembly becomes an exercise in frustration. Fortunately the wood is soft and an electric screwdriver will assist in getting the screws to "ignore" the pre-drilled hole to some extent. Nonetheless, I still stripped the heads of a number of them. Some kind of manufacturing change would make all the difference.
But in the end, I'm sure these racks will do their job nicely for years to come.
Disappointed in quality. It is not as stable as it might appear.
We have 3 of these in our basement and I just ordered 2 more. Very practical and sturdy for the price, and they look 'decent.' Great if you need to store some bottles away where no one will see them.
I would recommend this product but with the reservation to be careful about assembly.
