Keeps bottles safe but locks/clips break

I have used to transport wine around the world when I travel and (touch wood) never any damage to the wine. Always get the question - whats in the box and no one can believe it is wine. Only problem I have had was that all the locks and the clips (4 of them) broke when the safe went through TSA screening (for international travel). They are very flimsy and snap immediately if knocked. Be very careful with that.

Surpassed all expectations
By LynneVerified Reviewer from Silver Spring, MD on 5/29/2008
Pros:
Durable, Easy to Use
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The 6 and 12 bottle sizes of the aluminum wine vault (FAA approved) surpassed all expectation. Adapt to the foibles bottle shape effortlessly. Used 25 plus flights later, perform like first flight. In spite of what wine bottles weigh, easy to handle / well designed. In a pinch I have used both for stem ware and fine art successfully, just added foam. When the budget allows, I'll purchase a spare/back-up.

Love this travel case for our wines. I have only one problem with it, the pull up handle malfunctions. Other than that we can get our wines to the destination as a checked piece of luggage...Always getting people to ask "what's inside that silver box?"

Great for traveling with wine on the airlines. Used it for a wine trip last March and drank the 6 bottle it contained and refilled it for the return trip. All bottles came through without any problems.

I labled the case with "TSA002" and used TSA approved locks to secure it. Locks ($12) broke 2x either by TSA or rough baggage handling. The butterfly clips broke 3x by rough baggage handling and were repaired by the Mfg+shipping charges. Case tips over easily-wheels could be larger. 36 bottles transported none stolen or broken.

The telescoping handle sticks out and was broken off the case on my first trip. Wine was intact but handle ws bent and torn loose from the case.

Best Uses:

This piece of luggage frequently tips over, hurting the person pulling the case and shaking up the wine. It is safer and easier to use a cardboard wine case in a duffel bag. (This case has styrofoam inside, as do cardboard wine cases.) We will return ours and replace it when a decent product comes on the market.
