The design is great but the plastic molds are not strong enough. When the water freezes, it pushes the sides into weird bulges that make it almost impossible to get the form out without melting the whole thing.
I haven't un- molded and used it yet but I think it may be a conversation piece at a party.I'm a buyer and would consider buying them to put in our gift store during the holiday season.
In the past, I have used a small bucket with a cup in the middle to come up with the ice chiller. When I saw this in a catalog about six months ago, I've been meaning to go and mail order it. Well, six months later, the product was on back order from that company and I ended up doing a search through the internet and found Wine Enthusiast. I was so excited when I received it, I couldn't wait to use it. Then, a friend was having a communion party for her daughter, I decided to make a wine chiller for her. I filled it up with some rose petals and baby's breath and chilled it. After about 24 hours, it came out beautifully. She used it on her center table and loved it. There were continuous complements on how pretty the ice chiller was by everyone.
This was an impulse buy. Quite honestly, although it's been a few years, I used to accomplish the same thing by using a 1/2 gallon milk carton. Alas, no "drip pan" for the melting ice with a milk carton! Rated high on the coolness factor with our friends.
Use this for Christmas and it displayed beautifully. Family was impressed. Will also use this summer for my dog so she will be busy working on the chunk of ice in the hot summer!
Love the ice bucket idea, however I have been disappointed that there is a bulge that occurs when this is in the frozen state, which makes it take longer to thaw to get the ice mold out. I have replaced the liner, and still get the same effect. It is very beautiful when decorated!
Great Idea, but not thought out to the end. Ice sleeves turned out great, but when we put it on the table - 30 minutes later the bottom part that held the ice start leaking all over the table. A bit of a disappointment. I doubt I'll use it again, unless I figure out what to use as a safe base.
Don't expect what the picture shows. It does chill (or keep chilled) a bottle of wine but having it turn out like the picture shows isn't possible.
We were initially very excited about discovering the wine chiller mold. It would have been perfect for our style of entertaining, except that it leaked all over our dining room table. [...]
once the ice was molded, it didn't fit in the coaster very well. the stainless steel coaster was...boring.
The ice wine cooler was an awesome and attractive way to keep wine/champagne cold. Very decorative! I wish I had bought more than two of them.
Be smart and buy more than one...you'll be
ordering more if you don't!
