We were looking for a functional, efficient storage unit for our reds. Not too fancy on the outside, since it sits in our utility room. [...]Unit was easy to extract from the box and set up. It runs quietly and maintains a constant 54 degrees. The inside light isn't very bright, but that's a minor drawback. We've only had it a few months so can't comment on long-term reliability.
storage of quality red wines in my garage.
It was not quiet. I had a 'quiet type' before and it really was a silent operation. We sent it back, got another one, same problem. We could hear it 2 rooms away. It cooled well, became a little less loud, but was audible at conversaion level.
We bought this for our boss's office. It is perfect. It looks great and now he will have a place to store his wine at home and at work!
I bought this item to chill white wine only to discover it only chills to 50 degrees. This info was not available until I read the paperwork in the box. Now I'm back where I started putting white wines in the kitchen fridge.
Simple set up. Plug, preserve, and enjoy.
Quiet
Too small
it was fine until it stopped working all of a sudden after i hadn't had it for very long. that sucks.
i bought this product for a friend and they really like it. i am buying one for my husband soon.
I am disappointed in the color. I expected it to be a dark grey (metallic) color, not black.
Our kitchen appliances are all metallic graphite color, and I expected this to be similar.
It is too black. It runs a lot and when it runs it is not quiet as I thought it would be.
Great for a beginning wine collection.
Fits in closet for space efficeincy
Read good review of product in Wall Street Journal, which recommends storing and serving both red and white wines at 54-55 degrees. Have limited space and this fits easilhy into a closet.
I use the Silent 16 to keep my very best red wines at the proper storage temperature.
We love that is so quiet. It makes barely any noise when the motor is on; and any other time, you'd never know it was plugged in. We like the design of the unit - the digital temperature display is nice, the graphite trim is attractive, and the unit is not so large that it gets in the way.
This compact refrigerator protects our best wines from the temperature extremes in Manhattan, and tucks away neatly in a closet.
The only improvement I can think of is some more horizontal ribbing in the bottom to prevent sideways-on bottles from rolling out.
Since it is in a closet, it doesn't matter that it is not silent. Calling it silent is a bit cheeky, as when it is running the fan makes a noise equivalent to that of a medium-sized desktop computer.
There were dents in the stainless steel frame and the craftsmanship was poor as you can see the cracks between the frame parts. Not what I saw on the website. Bummer!
Convenient and very quiet.
Others have mentioned an inaccurate temperature gauge. My 16-bottle unit measured accurately. When I set it to 54 degrees, the second shelf from the bottom measures 54, the bottom shelf 55 degrees, and the top shelf 50 degrees--perfect for my whites on the bottom and the reds on top.
I debated getting the 18-bottle unit and am very happy I got the 16-bottle frig. The 16-bottle frig is wide enough to put extra-long bottles in sideways, the 18-bottle frig does not. This frig is exactly what I expected.
I absolutely love this product! I researched and compared different wine refrigerators and I'm so happy I bought this one. It's completely silent, easy to assemble (all you have to do is put the handle on the refrigerator door), and the design is very attractive. You can put this fridge anywhere and it will work like a charm!
I bought a much more expensive Cuisinart cooler for Christmas that was very loud - returned it and ordered this one for half the price. It holds more bottles, is adjustable, looks better, and after the initial cooling period, absolutely soundless!
Looks and works great. The few times the motor does run it runs very quietly. Attractive enough to be on display. Perfect for someone just getting started. My wife loves it.
[...]I received two wine coolers [...] Both are faulty. One sounds like a phone off the hook and the other has a Thermostat that keeps beeping. [...]
COULDN'T DECIDE WHERE TO PUT THE REFRIGERATOR. FINALLY MOVED SOME ITEMS AROUND AND PLACED IT ON A 6" HIGH ROLLING PLATFORM THE SIZE OF THE FRIG. MY HUSBAND PLACED IT RIGHT NEXT TO HIS BAR IN THE CORNER. VERY, VERY QUIET. DON'T EVEN KNOW IT'S THERE. ONLY HAVE IT SINCE CHRISTMAS. OVER TIME IT PROBABLY WILL DESERVE THE FIFTH STAR.
Had to send it back. Fan was so loud it would keep you awake at night. So much for silence! A disappointing Christmas present.
[...] Runs great, very quiet, nice interior light and plenty of room for the novice wine enthusiast. The very long neck bottles must be stored side-ways. Touch button controls on the outside of the unit - to include the well lit digital temperature display.
This is a great unit. My only regret is that I didn't buy the larger model. One suggestion is that they should design the shelving to show the lables so you do not have to pull out the bottles to see the type/brand!! I would definately buy one again!!
I selected this product for an apartment in NYC, where space is at a premium. It is a nice size for that. I got lucky on the door swing direction. It was hard to get the unit close to the wall, because the outlet is behind the unit and the plug takes up so much room. I was surprised that the bottles cannot be put on the shelves with the base out and that if you pull out the shelves to read the bottles, they can fall out.
I would buy this again, for the size, but I would prefer a Wine Enthusiast house label product to be of higher quality and show more thought.
Small and quiet, it's perfect for the amount of wine I keep at home. Works and looks great.
This is a great little wine cooler. Very quiet and does a great job. Some bottles don't fit all the way so you have to place them sideways but it still holds 16 bottles.
Perfect size for aspiring wine enthusiast.
I was looking to buy one for my daughter for Christmas but ended up buying one for myself, too. AND I'm so glad I did! For people just getting started or for those who are into wine and want to keep several bottles readily available for whatever reason, this one is perfect! This is one time you can believe what you read. Everything written in the description is right on. If you are researching for a unit, go no further.
Great product! We have it in our kitchen on the floor because it is too big for the countertop. It is extremely quiet and looks great in our modern kitchen. We've only had it a few days and the only problems I've noticed at this point is it sometimes moves up to 54 degrees even though I have it set to stay at 53 and Reisling bottles do not fit on the wire racks since they are longer than other wine bottles. Other than that, it is a great refrigerator and am happy I can store my wine at a proper temperature!
It fits right in with our kitchen appliances. It looks nice enough to put in the dining room.
My boyfriend loved it, and said his only complaint was that he didn't get it sooner! Excellent choice!
the directions with this unit say it must be installed in an environment with an ambient temperature between 77 and 80 degrees. WHAT?????
Who has anyplace in their home who keeps this as the ambient temperature, except if you live in New Delhi or Kenya or someplace? This should be stated on the front end. The unit gets to your house and you then find out that, guess what, your unit may not work at all because you cannot provide a room with this ambient temperature and the manufacturer won't warrant the performance. Doesn't make sense. I guess I will need to send it back.
My unit is set at 55 degrees and the display keeps flipping from 55 to 56 degrees. Not good.
Great compact design. Temperature fluctuations are minimal.
The first bottle of wine we put into the cooler was longer than the cooler is deep, the door would not close. I would be happier if the case was deeper. Other than that, it's great.
We purchased this as a Christmas gift for my husband's single brother. He loves the managable size but loves being able to store 16 bottles of his favorite red wines. He loves the stainless steel trim and the fact that the refrigerator is so quiet.
It's on the floor and bottles are difficult to access. The choice was mine however. It's located near the dining area so when one bottle is drained the next is in close proximity.
This cooler seems to be as good as advertised although time will tell how well it holds up. It is attractive and very quiet after the initial cool down. I was tempted to purchase the same basic cooler at a local store, but glad I bought direct. The unit was not nearly as attractive although I presume the mechanicals are the same. It had a plastic door matching the rest of the case and looked inexpensive. It cost less, but looked it. The stainless door on the one ordered direct from [...] is much nicer and the shelves are better as well.I would definitely make this purchase again.
I like my cooler very much. It would help if the manual pointed out that there are three rubber feet and one different foot without the rubber as the adjustable screw leg.
Item is very slick and practical, is silent as advertised and is attractive to look at (especially nice is the interior light). Only issues are as follows:
The decal sticker is a bit cheap and appears to be poorly glued on (the one that prominently displays "Wine Enthusiast" to the right of the temperature LCD);
The unit is actually too big for the kitchen, but too small to use as a decorative piece. If you have lots of counter space, maybe; however, ideally, its place is in a cabinet or on the end of a bar top or something similar. We have put ours on a mini-tablet in the dining room.
I waited a long time to purchase a wine refigerator and I'm very glad I did. Very, very quiet; stable temperature; nice looking. Really worth the cost!
My wine celler used to be under the stairs in the basement. Now it is easily accessible in the living room next to the portable bar.
Very affordable. Also purchased table.[...].One very satisfied customer.
This fits right on the kitchen counter corner.
It is so quiet and looks great.
My unit makes noise and I haven't been able to determine whether it is from vibrating shelves or the fan - it squeaks whenever it cycles. I also discovered that after a power failure of a few seconds the temperature rests to 50 degrees -- return home from the office after a full day and everyting will be 10 degrees colder than it was in the morning. This was a surprise - even cheap appliances keep their settings during brief power failures. Overall it does not merit the top WSJ rating it received - and it costs more now, too.
Good product, but the only problem is storing those Alsatian bottles
[...] pricing was comparable to what I saw it large department stores.
I have a big cellar in the basement but it is nice to have a few bottles available at all times in the kitchen. This serves that purpose well.
The light inside is a great feature. Most others don't have the light. You can lie bigger bottles down inside as well. It certainly clears room in your fridge for other things. Overall a great product.
I wish I had a spot for another one.
This is the third "quiet" wine cooler of this size I have purchased this year. We are very sensitive to noise. The door to the room where it is kept had been closed, but is now open again. I returned the second and am giving away the first. Both of the others cost more.
The tall bottles that don't fit neck out, do fit sideways on the bottom row.
If you're looking for this size, stop here. Not only is it quiet, but it looks great, too!
Thank you! Thank you!
I now have room in my regular refrigerator and the temperature in this item is more appropriate. I like the digital temperature indicator. I couldn't be happier.
use the product to keep the wine i receive from wine clubs...it does a really good job...only problem is that i may have to buy another one, as this one is full.
I like the fridge better without the door handle. The handle takes away from the "sleekness."
It was a gift for my bf and I'll get it for myself too. I just love it: the look, quality and what's important noiseless.
My wife is the wine drinker in our house and she loved the wine cooler I bought. It fit perfectly in our kitchen under a counter. Bought it just in time for the holidays coming up when we will be entertaining.
I'm a hero!
Overall the product is great - it's quiet, easy to operate, looks good, etc. The only negative thing so far has been that when the door is openned for a realtively short period of time, it seems to take a longer time than would be expected for the temperature to return to normal. Maybe that's normal though.
Excellent size for homes. Looks great in the kitchen or entertainment room. Very versitile.
We bought two of the 48 bottle refrigerators for ourselves and we were really please with the purchase so decided to give my Daughter and her Husband the 16 bottle refrig as a Christmas present.
I love having this refrigerator but the Silent Wine Refrigerator isn't silent because it DOES have moving parts. The fans run at low speed making odd, but quiet noises most of the time. This refrigerator is quieter and probably works better than compressor-driven wine refrigerators because it always seems to be running at a low level giving a more constant temperature. But it can be annoying so I put it in my office where with all the computer fans, etc., the noise isn't a problem.
I didn't install the shelves so all the bottles stand upright. I use it for red wines I intend to drink in the near future. Some have sediment so it doesn't get disturbed shifting the bottles. Also most of the wines I get have plastic "corks" or screw caps so why have them on the side?
The temperature display is off by a few degrees so you have to find out what "setting" you like best and not go by the absolute number. It is so great to be able to grab a bottle and it is the perfect temperature!
My only complaints beyond the fact it isn't totally silent are the temperature setting is forgotten if the power goes out and one of the feet popped off during shipping and it took me a while to find it and the screw in the packing material.
I have a few pricey wines that I lay down for a few years. I realized I was not storing them properly and the 16 Bottle Storage was a perfect, reassuring, solution.

The size is perfect for my use and it is very quiet.
Attractive product--I was looking for an efficient, reasonably priced and good looking unit to store wine. The review in the WSJ prompted me to take a closer look at this unit, and it seemed to be everything the wine critics said it was. When it arrived, it was easy to set up and absolutely quiet. It's a great addition to the pantry.
we always have cool white wine.

Love the "silent" feature, once we got it to be silent. Made an awful noise until we took back off and determined adjustment needed to allow fan to operate without rubbing against metal, making the loud noise.
Outstanding wine cooler. Does everything advertised and looks great. My only problem is that unlike other coolers, the instruction manual does not have any guidance to reverse the door opening. The electrical/electronics in the door make this impossible without manufacture's assistance and they offer none.
