The base is too light weight. Takes two people to keep it down and uncork the bottle. The uncorker part is also not strong enough or something. Ordered another brand and it works beautifully. This particular one is disappointing.
This is a great addition to the bar at home. It has a classic look and is very functional for entertaining.
Hard to use for anyone that is not strong, also it is too tall.
We owned an Estate opener for almost 10 years with frequent use as we entertain often. As it was looking old, we replaced with the Legacy. After 10 months, the handle broke off. Wine Enthusiast was good enough to replace, but after less than 9 months, it has frozen and totally useless.
Have used this item at friends' homes - was impressed. Bought my own, after 2nd. time it just wasn't working. But my bar looks nice with it on it!!
This thing is horrible. The stand bends as your trying to pull the handle, which makes it very difficult. Also the cork screw doesn't seem very sharp and takes a lot of effort to get it into the cork. On top of that it flimsy. The bushing on the handle side wore out very quickly. If my wife hadn't gotten it for my bday I would have sent it back. Not worth the money.

This wine opener looks beautiful and works well although it does take more strength than I expected to pull the lever down and remove the cork. Not quite as easy as it should be - unless I have just had some difficult bottles...
I agree with most of the other reviewers. It is a stylish piece that your friends will notice, but use a waiter's corkscrew to open your wine, not this thing! Hard to remove the cork from the worm, and takes a lot of muscle power for a clean act of uncorking. Better used on the bar to start a conversation.
THIS THING IS DIFFICULT TO WORK, ENGAGES TO THE SIDE OF THE CORK DAMAGING IT THEN UNCORKS ONLY 1/3 OF THE WAY LEAVING ME TO GET THE BOTTLE OFF OF IT AND TRY TO REMOVE THE DAMAGED CORK. I HAVE QUIT USING IT.
I was disappointed in the workmanship of this corkscrew. I had a hard time attaching the wooden handle (the threads on the bolt/screw didn't match those of the corkscrew)and the metal components don't fit well together.
This product has broken twice already. My children gave it to us for Christmas. I am very angry at the waste of their money. The gears need to be of better quality. Stronger.
The corkscrew was great until one of the lever clamps broke. If you can't get a replacement lever, then all you have is a fancy paperweight.
This is a beautiful piece! My guests enjoy using it as well!
I only have two minor complaints...it did not come with instructions on how to remove the cork from the screw at the end...I eventually figured it out but not until after my party! Also, the rubber protective "feet" are too thin and flimsy, I replaced them with better ones.
This was the perfect gift for my sister and brother in law. They frequently entertain large groups, as well as enjoy quiet time together after hectic days at work. This pretty, but practical wine opener is a great conversation piece. It gets those bottles opened fast so wine can be enjoyed sooner!
This is a nice addition to our bar and has already been put to much use, although it is a good thing I am handy with wood refinishing so I could restain and refinish the birch stand. Our stand was not as advertised, lighter stain than pictures.
Attractive and practical, but takes a bit of space if you include the stand so have a spot for it before you buy it!
I got this opener for my birthday and I absolutely love it. We enjoy wine a few times a week and this is the perfect and easiest wine opener I have had. I love the way it will re-cork the bottle if needed.
I like the way the opener works. The stand does not give good leverage for opening a bottle. Stand lifts off the table when I try to use it and I have to press my forearm against the front of the opener to prevent it lifting up. This is uncomfortable and difficult to do. I am giving this away to someone as it is harder to use than the "rabbit" type handheld opener I have. I wanted easier, not more difficult. Perhaps it would work fine clamped to granite counter but I don't have a place to do that and must use the stand.
the screw guide broke within the first year.[...] wound up tossing it in the trash - what a waste
i have had several openers of this type and until this one they have performed well, but this one is very hard to use, my wife cannot open a wine bottle with it, and now I just use my waiters corkscrew
I have had mine for 20 years with no issues! The one I bought recently was a Christmas gift for a friend. They work great on all kinds of bottles, the design gives me leverage to pull out tough corks. (If the cork is too dry, it does tend to push it down into yhe bottle - I just watch to see if that is starting to happen and stop the process to use one of the two-prong openers)
The opener is great, it is attractive, useful, and very effective. My wife, who struggles with other wine openers, finds this one relatively easy to use. We ordered it with the stand, which is considerably less attractive than the opener, and clearly not as well made.
