I use this corkscrew every day and it is very easy to use. I have arthritis and this corkscrew works well for me even on artifical corks. It would have been convenient if it had a storage box.

Instructions????

Ergonomic Grip

I read the very sparse instructions, followed them and the only thing that came out of the bottle was the corkscrew when I reversed the lever action...... what am I doing wrong? Perhaps, the instructions could include pictures of the process. It sounds like others have had few problems getting it to work. I love the foil cutter; it works quickly and efficiently. I'll let you know about the drip guard if I ever get the cork out of the bottle..... sigh.

Not for synthetic corks!

I did not realize until I received the item that it is not designed for synthetic corks. It is still in the box. Maybe I am not drinking the right kind of wine (! ;) but many of the corks in my bottles are synthetic. Still using the screw-in for now.

Junk
By TraditionalistVerified Reviewer from Portola Valley, CA on 4/14/2008
Cons:
Flimsy
Describe Yourself:
Practical
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I bought one of these a month or so ago and while I was not expecting a leverpull for this price, it is pure junk. It's flimsy and fits poorly and last night I stripped the gears opening maybe the 12th bottle since receiving it (not a synthetic cork--a 1986 cab, with wet cork). Wine Enthusiast should not sell a piece of junk like this.

Best value in wine openers. Bought these for gifts as I have had one for two years.
Bought a more expensive one from W.E. a few years back and after a couple years use the metal gear cracked. This one has proved more durable and came with an extra corkscrew unlike the more expensive one that broke.

Great ease in opening wine bottles, even if you don't take time to use the foil cutter like we often don't! A little ergonomic padding on the two levers that hold the bottle might be a nice added touch.

I saw this corkscrew being recommended as a best value buy on Cook's Illustrated Magazine/ America's Test Kitchen TV show on PBS. I was impressed with its effectiveness, its reasonable cost and the magazine's glowing recommendation.Five years back I had previously owned the more expensive Rabbit lever style corksrew that is very similar in style to the Concorde. The Rabbit fell apart after about a year of daily use. The Rabbit worked well but eventually failed due to use on the then new synthetic corks. The Concorde works just as well as the Rabbit and it works just fine on synthetic corks. The Concorde is not quite as ergonomically efficient or sleak and stylish as the Rabbit but for the price it works great. I bought the Concorde corkscrew for my elderly mother after watching her struggle with more common corkscrews. She had no problem adapting to this new method of bottle opening and she could open bottles with ease despite her limited strength.I also bought a Concorde corkscrew for my wife and she enjoys using it as well. I bought a third one at the same time to save on shipping and to keep as a spare gift.My only complaint with the Concorde corkscrew is that the two grip handles spring back open when not in use making the corkscrew difficult to store in my kitchen utensil drawer. Also the separate foil cutter included works just fine but it is small and tends to get lost in the clutter of my kitchen utensil drawer. It would be nice if the foil cutter was somehow attached to the corkscrew for an all-in-one product.Overall this is a great product for its price and would make a great gift.

It works very well on all types of corks, even synthetic although it's not meant to be used on them. I've bought several as gifts for friends, and all are delighted with it's performance. We own another, similar, but much more expensive product, and this one works as well as the more expensive product. The only exception is the included foil cutter, which for some reason doesn't work all that well...a minor issue in my opinion.
