Pros:
Attractive Design, Durable, Ergonomic
Cons:
Awkward To Use
Best Uses:
Home Bar
Describe Yourself:
Stylish
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The most stylish unit yet. The voice will disturb wine tasters and your sommelier. Recommend using the memory feature until you get back to your private abode. Wish it had a notes capability and an ability to update online.

I thought this would be a great item and gave one as a gift. You know, something you wouldn't buy for yourself - I was disappointed. The vintages are not recent; not super easy to use.

I purchased this product because Wine Enthusiast has discontinued the Palm OS version. This product does not have the wondereful features found in the Palm OS version, such as search capability, wine cellar management, years that a certain wine was good or bad, etc. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!

By MikeVerified Purchaser from Jackson CA on 2/4/2008
Cons:
Awkward To Use, Control button sticks, Does not contain Spirits
Describe Yourself:
A reference item
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Several wineries that I went into they had very little information. Said that it contained Spirit information...It does not. We were told. well I guess it doesent have it. Control button sticks. Good price, poor quality. Would be happy to pay more to get a product that works. [...]

By Luis the wine expertVerified Purchaser from Miami, Fl on 2/2/2008
Cons:
Awkward To Use, small selection of wines
Describe Yourself:
Frequent Entertainer
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I was very dispointed at such a small selection of wines. Very few of my favorites are shown and when shown the year is not there. The software makes it very hard to find desired wine. Really a wast of my time and $. DONT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros:
Good idea
Cons:
Low Quality

The product is not that bad although I find it labor intensive. It is one of the fad items that sounds great, is fun for the first couple of entries and than you lose interest in it. [...]

Form, But Not Much Function
By C.C. WriterVerified Purchaser from Bettendorf, IA on 1/11/2008
Pros:
Good Information
Cons:
Hard to use, Low Quality
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

While I find the information good and useful, the machine itself is tough to use because if "freezes up" a lot and I have to continually hit the rest button. I've actually thought about sending it back, but I keep hoping it will get better. It hasn't.

Interesting and fun!
By JB Wine LoversVerified Purchaser from Williamsburg, VA on 1/9/2008
Pros:
Durable, Good Value, High Quality
Best Uses:
Quick reference
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Quick reference on wineries and wine types. Good information for selecting new wines to try. A bit confusing when using for first time, but that's a minor issue. This is a good product for novice, as well as experienced, wine drinkers.

Not for the Professional
By harrydweeks[@]Verified Purchaser from Scottsdale, AZ. on 1/8/2008
Pros:
Durable
Cons:
Bad Value
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I was pleased with the size and performance. However, the data is not as current as I had hoped . Being a Wine Steward for [...] I was hoping that many of the wines we carry would be included . Not only did the devise not have the wines listed, but what it did have listed was only as current as 2003 or 2004. I can see where the devise may be helpful to an individual wine enthusiast but not as a tool for the professionals .

Handy device for wine novices
By Susan the PhilosopherVerified Purchaser from Long Island New York on 1/7/2008
Pros:
Breadth of selection, Durable, Good Value, High Quality
Cons:
Small screen
Best Uses:
Flavor descriptions, Price checking
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

It takes some practice to use fluently.
More generic categories would have helped, e.g., St. Emilion, Margaux, Pouilly-Fuisse, etc., before specific Chateaus are involved. This is true especially for the novice, for whom the device is best targeted.

Didnt make the cut
By Nora from New York on 1/4/2008
Pros:
Good concept
Cons:
Limited wines, Not quite up to date
Best Uses:
Good for beginners
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

My suggestion is this product is for someone who is just beginning to get into the wonderful worlds of wine and wants to make good selections. I just sent the product back after purchasing it for my husband for Christmas because he felt it was "A good concept, would be better if it could be updated via computer (USB), it was not up to date and was missing some vintages".

Great gift for the Wine lover!
By Mary the MomVerified Purchaser from Michigan on 1/3/2008
Pros:
Good Value
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this for my son and my husband for Christmas. What a great gift for the wine lover in your life. This actually has over 10,000 wines in it and can give you the info that you need about the wine before you buy it! You can also add your own reviews/comments and save them for your future reference!

Hard to navigate
By JoeVerified Purchaser from Cleveland, OH on 1/2/2008
Cons:
Bad Value
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Although it generally does what it is intended to do, the features are more difficult to use than advertised. the average wine drinker or "Wine Enthusiast" could find more convenient information online.

Good value for only $29
By jschmelzVerified Reviewer from Columbus, Ohio on 12/31/2007
Pros:
Good Value
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is a good value for only [$]. Once you get the hang of scrolling through the ABC and the 3x, you can get to the wine you want to read about pretty quick.I hope they come out with an update cartrige soon because it doesn't have some of the latest vintages. But I think this is a really cool device that should get better as they continue to update and add to the database.

Plethora of Useless Info
By Scotchloks from Worcester, MA on 12/29/2007
Pros:
Sound Switch Off
Cons:
Too many clicks
Best Uses:
Blackberry Look-a-Like
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

It takes too many clicks to find any info. The sound is the AOL "Welcome" & "Goodbye" and can, fortunately, be turned off. The manual says "Rated Spirits" is a selection but my unit, Ver. 2.6.07, does not have this as a line item. All-in-all, you are better off downloading the PDA Wine List for your Palm Treo, et al. It offers similar data and you can make phone calls too!

Handy Tool Before Trip to Wine Shop.
By CorkyVerified Purchaser from Northbrook, IL on 12/29/2007
Pros:
Durable, Good Value, Handy Reference, High Quality
Cons:
Limited Of Wines, Not enough up-to-date, Spirits Not Needed
Best Uses:
For Quick Reference, Use before shopping
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is the second edition of this unit I have purchased. I must say that I'm not too happy with the limited number of wines contained in it's data base. Also, not at all happy that it wastes space on spirits that it could be using for wine. It should contain at least as much as your book "Essential Buying Guide 2007". If it did contain double its present data, I would consider using it as a reference at both a wineseller as well as when dining out. As it is, it contains too little to be of much help at a dining establishment that has a high-end medium sized wine list . As for one with a high-end extensive wine list, I would seek the advice of their sommelier.

pocket guide
By jredwineVerified Purchaser from charlotte nc on 12/27/2007
Pros:
Durable
Cons:
limited info
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

not as informative as expected

Not what I was hoping
By CCVerified Purchaser from St Paul, Mn on 12/16/2007
Cons:
Bad Value, No info current vintages, No way to update info
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The product lists foods that go with wines. when looking up a Pinot Noir, it lists a couple of items only. When looking up a wine, it had info on the 2003 vintage, not the 2004. Current vintages for sale can't be looked up, and there isn't any way to update the info.
we are sending it back!

Pocket Wine Master Review
By JohnVerified Purchaser from Naples, FL on 12/16/2007
Pros:
Inexpensive
Cons:
Poor quality, Poor software, Slow, Too many clicks
Best Uses:
Determine value
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The problem with this device is how long it takes to click through to the wine you are trying to evaluate.

Instead of being able to type the name of the winery, and clicking on the wine and year, you end up scrolling through hundreds of names.

It takes too long when you are trying to evaluate 20-30 wines in a store.

Good product and handy!
By AlvaniacVerified Purchaser from Alabama on 11/20/2007
Pros:
Durable, Good Value
Cons:
Needs more wines added
Best Uses:
Restuarant
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great for picking wines at restuarants and for buying wines wherever you are.
