cooling unit runs constantly
By wine drinkerVerified Purchaser from Portland, Oregon on 7/9/2008
Pros:
Attractive Design, Efficient Use of Space, Good Capacity, Holds Bottles Securely
Cons:
Damages Labels, Hold constant temp better
Best Uses:
Wine Cellar Storage
Describe Yourself:
Practical
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This is the second "kit" I've purchased. The cooling unit on this one runs all the time. I have a 500+ unit that holds a constant temp and the cooling unit rarely turns on. My guess is this unit is not as well insulated making the cooling unit work harder.

Entry level best for basement
By JakeVerified Purchaser from Sigourney, Iowa on 6/27/2008
Pros:
Adjustable Shelving
Cons:
Loud
Best Uses:
Bar, Basement or remote area, Commercial Use, Restaurant
Describe Yourself:
Aspiring Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Panel fasteners did not always thread correctly and made assembly frustrating. The cooling unit was oversized, noisy, and cycles too frequently. If maximally filled, the most bottles would be about 175, and this would leave some tilted up rather than flat. I was not satisfied (mostly because of noise), as my wife wanted a cabinet for use in our dining room.

WineEnthusiast credited my money back, and I will purchase another of their Peltier based solid state (thermoelectric) cooling units instead.

Very Good Wine Storage Unit
By StanVerified Purchaser from Wichita, Kansas on 6/24/2008
Pros:
Adjustable Shelving, Attractive Design, Energy Efficient, Precise Temperature, Quiet
Best Uses:
Bar
Describe Yourself:
Aspiring Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is a very competitively priced wine storage unit for the price. It did take longer to assemble than the advertising implied. I did not like the fasteners that were used, and I hope that a better design is forthcoming. But, once the unit was assembled, it worked perfectly and I was happy to have my wines in place. The new cooling unit is much better than what the old design has in it. I will know more as the unit does it's job in the future.

We purchased our unit in early 2000 and it has run like a charm. Can't tell any increase in utilities for the unit. We keep it stocked to the max. Just now is the cooling unit starting to falter, but it's easy to replace for small dollars.
