No, I would not recommend this to a friend

First of all, there isn't enough empty space in a bottle of wine to use the scepter without pouring a little wine out first.
Secondly, it won't chill a warm bottle of white wine down to drinking temperature but it will cool a red wine. It will help to keep a bottle of white wine cool if you chill it first.
