The best way for a beginner to understand a specific subject is to acquire knowledge from the professionals. For the cost of this book, a person new to wine quality can select samples available in their location and start to understand the complex taste that is used to define a good wine for the money. It is similar in use to a Bible. Why waste money? Start with an excellent reference!

Great improvement over the 07 version. The number of rated wines jumped from 25,000 to 40,000. Much greater chance of finding what you want to purchase. Would be great if they had Best Buy and Cellar Selection sections in addition to the current breakdown by country.
