After reading the other reviews, I thought I should post one as well.

The decanter works just fine for me. My girlfriend and I rarely finish a second bottle of wine, but always open one anyway. It's handy to keep what's left in the decanter instead of trying to funnel it back into a bottle. I've had some a couple of days later, and it still tasted great.

I did have trouble getting the vacuum to work, at first. Then I realized it was more of a problem with the indicator. It doesn't move smoothly, so at first I thought it wasn't working at all. After five or six pumps, it jumped up a little bit. I kept going, and eventually it hit the red zone. It’s definitely faster for me than transferring somewhere else. Just make sure your pump is flush with the top.

Limited instructions

Great taste (used funnel to pour in), keeps wine great, much better than bottle vacuum stoppers. Instructions very limited on side of box (nothing inside), need to ensure when use pump that the vacuum release button on stopper is up! Then to release vacuum, press down on button.

Great idea, terrible execution
By Joe PortoVerified Purchaser from Cambridge, MA on 2/6/2008
Pros:
Nice format, Nice Idea
Cons:
Cheap Craftsmanship, Needle Doesn't Work
Best Uses:
Domestic, Informal
Describe Yourself:
Practical, Stylish
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

When I first received the decanter, the neck had a few chips on it, so I asked for a replacement.

The replacement I got is made of lighter and cheaper glass but doesn't have the chips on the neck. It's really strange how the two decanters are drastically different in weight (but not in shape).

For both decanters, the pump is cheaply made and pumping until the cows come home doesn't move the needle. I think that this product is a nice idea, but it is very cheaply made and overpriced for something so flimsy made in China.

I guess they can get away with it by being "the first vacuum decanter".

I got this product to decant vintage port, which I typically keep for 10 days after opening. I will keep doing what I have been doing before, which is keeping the port in the original bottle, after decanting, and using a vacuvin pump.

This product is fine as a decanter, but doesn't live up to the hype as a vacuum wine keeper.

Pump doesn't work..TWICE

I purchased the decanter, and then received a replacement. In both instances, the pump didn't function properly and couldn't create a vacum. This is a dud item, as currently manufactured. Very disappointing!

It seems to work well
By DanVerified Purchaser from New York, NY on 2/6/2008
Pros:
Attractive Design, Thick Glass
Cons:
Difficult to Clean, Fogs Up
Best Uses:
Informal
Describe Yourself:
Practical

It works fine except you have to know to lift the small plunger on the top to open or reseal the decanter.

Great concept IF it worked.
By Dissatisfied PurchaserVerified Purchaser from Dallas, TX on 1/9/2008
Pros:
Attractive Design, Comfortable to Hold
Cons:
Does not work
Describe Yourself:
Frequent Entertainer
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The concept is great, but it does not work. I have "pumped" over 30 times and have still been unable to make the needle move, much less get it to the necessary red zone.
