My husband and I received two of these racks as Christmas gifts. The assembly was an absolute nightmare!! First of all, the holes for the screws were not drilled all the way through. We had to stop assembly and go buy an electric screwdriver just to make it work. Even then, the screws were extremely difficult to get in all of the way. Also, the back, top, bottom and shelves of the unit are particle board... Poor quality to say the least. The only actual wood pieces are the sides. The back pieces did not have all of the holes drilled for the number of screws that were supposed to be inserted. Finally, the back pieces were about a 1/4 inch longer than they should have been, so the backing is not flush with the top and bottom. After putting the first rack together, we hoped it was a fluke, but had the exact same problems with the second rack. Wine Enthusiast should be embarassed to sell this product. If I'd felt like dealing with packing them back up [...], I would have sent them back. Buyer beware of this product!!
Putting this unit together is fairly easy as long as you own a drill and/or an electric screwdriver. If you do not then I would not suggest purchasing this item. The holes for the screws are not pre-drilled; there are just "dimples" in the wood where they expect you to line up the pieces. Using a manual screwdriver to put this together would make for an extremely frustrating task. This is not fine furniture by any stretch of the imagination so please do not expect it to be anything other than an inexpensive, space saving storage solution. It took me roughly fifteen minutes to put this together (once I figured out the dimple thing.) I am happy with my purchase as it fits perfectly in the small alcove that I have and it holds quite a lot.
I really like the functionality of these racks. They can be stacked and fit nicely into tight places. They are a bit difficult to assemble. Even after soaping the screws it was not easy to screw the screws into place. After assembling 3 I had a blister on my hand!
[...]had ours delivered to us to go with the Cube-Stack Wine Racks. We were extremely disappointed with the X-Cube because the color of the wood was completely different than the Cube-Stack that they were to be used with. I would hate to think what the combo item would have looked like with the X-Cube, Cube Stack, and Glass Rack. Total miss matches which we are considering putting the X-Cube in our cellar rather than our dining room where we have the Cube-Stack Wine Racks; which look wonderful and work very well and are a very solid construction.
the quality of materials are very poor also the finished details are so bad I couldn't return because was a gift from some one very special and I waiting for she to come to see by her self that is waste of money
I had shopped around, online, for a while and finally selected Wine Enthusiast's Cube-Stack Wine Bottle & Stemware Rack, a set of three racks. I added a fourth rack, VERY stackable, so I have two X-Style racks, allowing me to store about 50 bottle total. I don't use the stem ware rack to store my wine glasses, also bought from Wine Enthusiast's, but store about 20 bottles in just this section. The 4 stacked racks are very nice looking, sturdy. Easily put together. Excellent purchase.
Not manufactured with the greatest precision, but easy enough to assemble if you have a powered screwdriver. Looks good, holds wine, which is the important thing...only real complaint is that the crosspieces are mot sanded to the same smoothness as the box structure.
Assembles easy enough, however the back panels were cut too big and didn't fit properly. The pre-drilled nail holes on the panels also didn't line up. I ended up not using them. The cube still looks good without them. The bottom section has too much space for 3 bottles, and not quite enough space for 4 without the bottles moving around. Still very nice for the price.
Customer service is impeccable, making up for the mediocre quality of the items. There were issues with getting catalog codes to function correctly, and the customer service representative not only gave me the deal retroactively, she worked with shipping charges as an apology for the inconvenience.
We are not happy with the look of our new cube stack unit. Holes that were to have been predrilled were not and when we got the unit assembled, the back panel hangs over the side about 1/8th of an inch and it looks funny. We will place in an area where no one can see it...like our wine cellar!
This product while a pretty good buy was not exactly the easiest to put together. The finishes on the rack and the x-stack divider were completely different, so I had to stain the divider to look the same as the rest of the rack. Not only that, I had to drill holes so that some of the pieces would align correctly. Whoever predrilled this product must have never read blueprints or put one together themselves. After spending about an hour modifying the the rack for fit together correctly, I finished it. I would not say that this is by any stretch of the imagination high quality. Had I known that it would come like this I probably would have built one myself. It does the job but I don't think I will buy a rack like this ever again.
I ordered two and returned one when the first was so difficult to assemble. The screw holes did not line up accurately. I ended up not being able to put the back on the first one and just gave up entirely on the second one.
