Can the rack lay vertical ?
null on Apr 7, 2012
BEST ANSWER: You could lay this rack vertically. But in doing so - you will not have the bottom footing and will most likely not be able to use the bottom row of racking. Please contact our storage specialist at 800 356 8466 to go into further detail.
Hi,

How much does it weight?
thanks
arno on Nov 4, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The shipping weight for the 144 Bottle Black Tie Grid is 35 pounds.
If laying this on the side is it possible to stack a second unit on top of the first? This would result is a slight shorter combined height (I'm guessing around 63 inches including the "feet").
James on Feb 14, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. These items are not meant to be stacked on their side. If you have further questions please contact us at 1-800-377-3330.
Can this rack accommodate standard Burgundy/Chardonnay bottles?
John on Mar 8, 2014

Can the provided hardware for anchoring the unit be used with a concrete wall v. wallboard or wood?
Mike on Jul 24, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your inquiry. The provided hardware would be compatible for most types of wall structures. If you have any further questions, feel free to call in at 800 356 8466. Thank you again.
I need to replace some of the braces for this rack. I only see "double wide" braces for sale. What do I need to get to fix up this rack?
null on Dec 28, 2011
BEST ANSWER: Great question. Yes, those double deep braces are to install one rack in front of the other making it a "double deep" rack. If you are in need of parts for the standard rack, the best solution would be to contact our customer service department at 800-648-6058. Thank you

Scotty on Aug 28, 2012

how big is a bordeaux bottle?
null on Sep 25, 2011

This is your average wine bottle and measures about three inches at the bottom and ranges from 11 and a half inches to 12 inches tall. The opening on the black tie grid will 3.25" wide.
Can you paint these shelves with spray paint?
Carl on Aug 14, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your inquiry. As they are now, the Black Tie Grid is a powder coated metal. Yes, you could spray paint with several coats. If you have any further questions, please reach out to us at 800 356 8466. Thank you again.
Does each rack contain two grids (front and back)?
null on Aug 28, 2011
BEST ANSWER: Yes, each rack does contain two grids for everything you need!
I purchased this unit from you. I want to install this unit horizontally and above a base cabinet. Is that possible or does the unit need to be positioned on the floor and anchored to the wall?
Bill on Jul 16, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your inquiry. The black tie grid has these feet that the rack sits in. As long as this customer puts the “feet” on top of the base cabinet it will work. If you have any further questions, feel fee to reach out to us at 800 356 8466. Thank you again.
Rather than mount the rack vertically (18 high by 8 wide), can it be mounted horizontally? Is it necessary that the rack base be on the floor?
Bill the Novice on Jul 15, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Great question Bill! The rack can be mounted horizontally, but the base will not be able to be used on the rack if you install it as such. So you may have some trouble fitting bottles in the bottom row. But yes, you can physically set it up that way. Thank you.
Can the unit be split to make two racks of 4x18 rather than just 8x18?
Shoeless on Jul 2, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, the only way for these to be split up is for them to be cut as they cannot be separated on their own. If you have any further questions, please feel free to call our storage consultants at 800 356 8466. Thank you again.
There is no way this an be a free standing rack--any suggestions on how to attach it to a wall but still have it far away from the wall so the bottles will fit properly?
Romi on May 26, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your inquiry. The Black Tie Grid is NOT a free standing rack. Please use the "L" brackets that are included to anchor and attach to the wall. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to a Storage Consultant at 800 377 3300. Thank you again.
What are the dimensions of the entire unit when put together? and what is the interior dimension per bottle?
null on Apr 4, 2012
BEST ANSWER: The dimensions of the unit when put together is 66 H x 30 W x 8 D. The interior dimension per bottle is 3.5 inches. Any other questions please call us at 800-377-3330.

Thanks

Teresa on Jan 12, 2015

Meg on Jan 2, 2015

Can I cut the meeting so it becomes a rack that holds 96 bottles?
Roger on Oct 15, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It is not recommended to cut this rack.
Can this unit be mounted on the wall without the base sitting on the floor?
BT on May 12, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This item will need to sit on the floor for it to work properly. Now if you build a shelf and put it under the rack it can support the weight then that would work as well.

Doesn't hold large bottles (Pinot)
This is a functional way to hold a lot of wine. As previously mentioned you need to build a little spacer to push it off the wall as the mounts aren't long enough and don't allow for the bottles to rest securely unless you add a couple of inches space. But the biggest thing is pinot bottles don't fit. The squares aren't big enough. I bought one similar to this a couple of years ago and thought I was getting the same thing, but no. So since I have both it doesn't matter to me, but I would be very upset if I didn't have somewhere else to put large bottles.

Inexpensive Storage - Easy Assembly
These racks works perfectly with Bordeaux and standard Chardonnay bottles. Unlike many racks, these also work well with half-bottles. I added 1" of depth to the rack by attaching 1x2 strips to the wall (toggle bolted) and then used the included screws to attach the rack to the wood. I prefer this to using the included plastic wall anchors. Since I was building 5 racks side-by-side, I ran three wood strips horizontally at the height of the mounting brackets. The greater depth is more secure and permits storage of taller (Italian and other fancy types) bottles.

Use another type of rack for Large Formats, Champagne and Burgundy bottles.

These racks look very nice. Based on comments in other reviews and the cheap price, my wife was worried that they would be difficult to assemble and look cheap. They are neither cheaply made nor difficult to assemble!
Cheap Junk
This product was ill concieved! Start with two grids (available at your animal feed store) paint them black and tie them together with hardware. Any hardware will do because whats provided with this rack is so flimsy and not well thoughtout at all. I had to tie rubber bands around the connecting pieces just to make sure they didn.t come apart. I wouldn't pay more than $50 for this product. Never again!!

Love It!
I'm using this rack in my garage. It is an excellent value on a price per bottle basis when it comes to wine storage. The only issue I have at all is with some bottles (especially Pinot Noirs) that have a larger base - they are just a bit too big to get into the slots. They will rest safely on top, but it would be nice if the squares were slightly larger.

Good basic storage, but with gotchas
Good, economical, basic volume storage. Openings don't fit larger bottles like Champagne and some Rhone and specialty bottles. Supplied mounting pieces do not hold entire rack far enough above floor to allow bottom row of bottles to sit down securely and not far enough from wall so bottle necks rest securely on outer grid (I had to make my own additional mounting pieces to overcome). Older versions of this product had each grid panel as one solid piece where this new one makes each grid out of two pieces with small connectors, which undoubtedly makes shipping easier but is not as solid a structure when assembled.

144-Bottle Black Tie Grid
Takes a minimum amount of space, easy installation, serves my needs and is affordable.

Works well, very economical.
Delivery was quicker than expected, and arrived undamaged. I can't comment on customer service, as I had no need to contact them.

Great product
Easy to assemble and holds LOTS of bottles. Really unfortunate that the "holes" for the bottles do not accommodate Champagne or the "new style" Pinot Noir or Syrah bottles.

144 Bottle wine rack looks great!
When the rack is against the wall the bottles don't fit correctly. By putting two 1 1/2 angle brackets together it worked well as the spacer needed. You will need six of these spacers so buy 12 angle brackets and the hardware needed to make each pair in the shape of a U. I also used tie wraps to secure down the spacers provided between the front and rear grids. Without using tie wraps these spacers are very flimsy. I needed a rubber hammer to get the top and bottom of each grid to properly seat deep enough. The price was right and once I got it properly secured with the extra space so the bottles could seat properly it looked great. It is also very sturdy now.

144 Bottle Black Tie Grid Wine Rack
We previously purchased one of the racks and set it up in a small storage area. After it was filled we purchased two more racks and set them up in a larger storage area, and relocated the first one there too. Three 144 bottle racks side-by-side, now 90% filled, Awesone! Looks like one big wine rack. I modified the installation by adding a 3/4" spacer between the wall and rack mounting bracket so longer bottles would slide in deeper since some aren't as secure as I'd like them. Overal, a great rack for the price else we wouldn't have three of them.
